Led Zeppelin
The history of Page, Plant, Jones & Bonham
What?
Led Zeppelin was an English rock group that lasted from 1968-1980 and was made up of guitar player Jimmy Page, drummer John Bonham, bass player, John Paul Jones, and singer Robert Plant. Over that span of 12 years they made 9 albums Led Zeppelin (I, II, III, IV) House of the Holy, Physical Graffiti, Presence, In Through the out Door and Coda. They were one of the most influential bands of all time, some of their well known songs are stairway to heaven, whole lotta love, and rock and roll.
How?
Zeppelin was formed by Jimmy Page joining a band called the Yardbirds which is where he met John Paul Jones. Page was still in the Yardbirds but the other members quit and they needed a singer, bassist and a drummer to go along with him and through that they got Robert Plant who suggested to have John Bonham on drums, and Page knew that Paul was looking for a band and let him have the final spot as bassist/organist and that’s how the four met. The first time they played together was when they were finishing a tour that the yardbirds already committed to before they split up. They played a lot of Yardbird songs and a lot of covers, after the tour was over the wanted to continue but the were not allowed to use the name after the tour so they came up with the name Led Zeppelin.
Where?
In 1970 Plant and Page went to this old cottage in Bron-Yr-Aur where they made most of Led Zeppelin III and IV. In Zeppelin I and II it was really heavy with the hard hitting drums and all the distortion that went along with Pages riffs, but at this cottage Plant and Page where inspried by their surroundings to make softer music for exsample more acoustic guitar is used in III and IV. This put on a great display of the band's versatility of their musical talents.
