3rd - 5th Grade Announcements

As you know, we are midway through Q3 and we are continuing to keep a laser-like focus on teaching and learning. Be sure to check for homework sheets each Monday to preview what scholars are learning. Please remind scholars that failure to submit homework can have an impact on their Q3 grades. Remember, scholars must complete a Math fluency activity and thirty minutes of Reading each night in addition to other assignments they may receive. Here are some helpful homework tips to make homework more engaging for scholars:

  • Location - Provide your scholar with a well-lit, distraction-free place to do homework. Avoid distractions of TV, loud music, phone calls, or social media.

  • Tools of the trade - Keep study materials available - such as paper, pens, pencils, dictionary, etc

  • Dedicated homework and study time - Set aside daily homework/study time, keeping in mind regular after-school activities, and sports or music practice.Try to schedule homework time earlier in the afternoon or evening so your scholar has some free time before going to bed

Homework can have many benefits for young children. It can improve remembering and understanding of schoolwork. Homework can help students develop study skills that will be of value even after they leave school. It can teach them that learning takes place anywhere, not just in the classroom. Homework can benefit children in more general ways as well. It can foster positive character traits such as independence and responsibility.
