PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
This week we say a special welcome to Jack Port, Gabriel and Lucca Ferro Sosa, Liam and Kyle Browne. Congratulations on making such a positive start at HNPS.
I was blown away last week by the confidence of our Year 6 speech finalists. All 11 were simply amazing. A special thank you to our judges, former HNP Principal, Mr Paul Bremmer and Deputy Principal Mrs Shona Burrough. I'm glad they were doing the judging and not me. It would have been a colossal task separating such a talented group of students. A special well done to winner Tallulah Oliver, second placegetter Greer Rose and third equal James Barrett and Sophia Morriss.
Well done to our tennis players who have been rather busy of late. Last week students were involved in the Hawke's Bay champs as well as the school tournament held over the weekend. More information about these events can be found in the sports section below. A big thank you to Henry Wedd and his team for organising the school championships and to Erica Cranswick for coordinating the Hawke's Bay event.
The new Covid 19 mandate takes effect from 15th November. This means that all staff and parent volunteers need to have had at least their first Covid 19 vaccination by this date.
There has been a slight change in the wording for students on buses. Previously it stated that students under 12 years of age did not need to wear masks. The change is that "we encourage all students to wear face coverings on school transport". In short, masks are encouraged, but not mandated for bus students under 12 years of age.
A reminder that health guidelines encourage parents to drop students at the gate where possible. Should you need to come on site, please wear a mask and be aware of social distancing recommendations. Thank you.
This Friday we have a gumboot mufti day to support students' mental health. Tamariki can wear gumboots and mufti clothing. We ask that students bring a gold coin donation to support this cause. More information can be found through the link below. Thank you.

Student Volunteer Army
Hi Parents and Caregivers
We’re the Room 26 Student Volunteer Army.
One Voice Community Services Trust is organising a Christmas event at Te Aranga Marae. It will feed lots of families. Our mission is to provide Christmas presents to those who attend the event. Our focus this year is for the children, to make their Christmas just a little bit more special.
We need your help!
You could help us by donating Christmas presents.
We will start to collect Christmas presents from 3rd November until 14th December
Our friendly collectors will come around classes every morning to collect donations from your children, or they can deliver them to Rm 26.
We can wrap the presents for you, however, If you do wrap the presents we would appreciate that you would include an age category and gender.
Thank you!
If you have any questions please contact
Dario Rotondo Room 26 SVA representative.
Donations and Volunteers...Thank You!!!
This year the HNPS Library has purchased around 450 books and received a staggering 94 books donated by HNPS families. These donations have all been gratefully received, so a BIG THANK YOU to all the families who have brought books in for us.
Before these books hit our library shelves they need covering. Two fabulous volunteers from Woodford House have spent many hours during their lunch breaks covering and preparing many of our new books. Woodford House encourage their students to support our community through volunteer work and at HNPS we are grateful for their expertise and support.

**PEAK TRAIL BLAZER UPDATE –
Tainui Trail Still Going Ahead, But Te Mata Peak Trail Cancelled**
The Peak Trail Blazer Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the Te Mata Peak Trail, offering refunds, deferrals to next year (Nov 20th) or a virtual event. An email to these participants will be sent over the next few days outlining the details.
However, we are planning to still run the Tainui Trail. This event will look quite different from previous years and will be run in age and gender categories, to ensure we meet the level 2 guidelines. It will also start and finish at Tainui this year. We are just working through the logistics at present and will email out all the details once this is confirmed.
The Peak Trail Blazer is a 100% fundraising event, which is this year raising funds for Re-Source Charity and Havelock North Primary.
If you are able to help marshal on the 21st November from 8-12pm please email Catherine Wedd at peaktrailblazer@hnps.school.nz or phone 0212886770
We thank you for your support.
Best Regards,
Catherine Wedd

Home and School Fundraising
Calendar Art Fundraiser
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Each year HNP Home and School organises a calendar art fundraiser. Last term the children produced a piece of art with their class, which through this fundraiser, can be printed on calendars, greeting cards, diaries, mousepads and sketch pads. These make great Christmas presents for yourself, grandparents or anyone else who would appreciate a personal gift.
Each child who completed calendar art last term will have received an order form at school today. Please check their school bag this afternoon. The form is unique to your child, with an individual code to enter at www.kidsartworks.com to order their artwork (similar to the school photo orders). This year we again have Smencils (smelly pencils/colouring pens) available to add to your order.
Orders are now open and must be received by 7:00 pm Wednesday, 17 November. You can order as many times as you would like between now and then.
You can also upload other children's artwork in the family or a family photo to make a Christmas card etc. Be creative! Great if you can support this fundraiser since we have had to cancel Blast in the Park.
The final cards, diaries, etc will be sent to school before the end of the school year.
If your child does not come home with a form before the weekend, please email homeandschool@hnps.school.nz with your child's name and room number.
Yummy Stickers
Thank you to the wonderful Year 6 Physical Activity Leaders (PALs) - Max, Tho, Harry. Londyn, Teagan, Maddie and Logan - the yummy stickers have all been counted. With the covid situation we will store them until next year, so keep eating The Yummy Company apples/pears, collecting the stickers and we'll start collating them in term 2 next year.
Kind regards
