High School Highlights
Weekly Updates from Big Walnut High School
Week of August 23, 2021
WELCOME BACK!!!!!
It was so great to see students back in the building this week! Our staff members were excited and ready to see and interact with all of our students. We enjoyed meeting all of our freshmen and new students on Tuesday with Eagles' First Flight and our staggered start on Wednesday-Friday allowed everyone to ease into the year with plenty of opportunities to introduce logistical information and answer questions. We are ready to see all of our Golden Eagles first thing Monday morning for the start of a fantastic 2021-2022 school year.
Each week our high school sends out a newsletter to update parents with important information. Included will be announcements, events, opportunities for students and more. Please check it out each week.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers, school counselor or the administration if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact the main office at 740-965-3766 between the hours of 7:00 and 3:15.
BWHS Arrival Information
The high school doors will open each morning at 7:15 a.m. Please do not enter the building before that time. When students arrive, they will need to report directly to their first period class. Any student who needs breakfast will go directly to the cafeteria, eat there and then report to class. Food will not be allowed outside the cafeteria.
First period begins promptly at 7:40 a.m.
Join us for BWHS Curriculum Night
We encourage you to come to curriculum night; however, in order to reduce the amount of people in the building, we ask that one person per household attend if possible. We also recommend leaving siblings at home since this night is geared towards an adult audience. There is no childcare provided at this event.

A Message from our SRO
Breakfast and Lunch is Again Free for All Students, Provided by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
The USDA has extended the waiver allowing ALL STUDENTS to receive daily FREE breakfast and FREE lunch for the 2021-2022 school year, regardless if they qualify for free/reduced meal status.
If you believe you qualify for free/reduced meal benefits, it is very important that you still complete a Free and Reduced Price Meal application because the eligibility status from the Free and Reduced Price Meal application is one of the factors used for waiving or reducing school fees and pay-to-participate fees. Even though all students are temporarily receiving free breakfast and free lunch, fees may only be waived if you qualify based on the Free and Reduced Price Meal application, and you completed the form. Additionally, eligibility for P-EBT benefits can only be determined based on the Free and Reduced Price Meal application. A la carte items or extras are sold at current pricing. Please apply money to your student's lunch account for these items by going to www.payschoolscentral.com. To read the full notice on Free and Reduced eligibility, and to access the Free and Reduced Price Meal application, visit the Food Service page of our website. Contact Linda Klamfoth at lindaklamfoth@bwls.net or (740) 965-8958 with any questions.
Updates from the School Counseling Office
Senior Credit Checks and Naviance Training:
Senior Naviance training and credit checks will be happening with all seniors during their English classes the week of August 31. If your child is not in an English class this semester they should attend a session in the IC with another class. Please have them email their school counselor for help with this. Students will need to complete the credit check process and learn Naviance in order to send transcripts and letters of recommendation to colleges.
