  • Teachers cannot leave students unattended during CGT.
  • Teachers cannot cancel CGT without prior notice to Coach C & Ms. Martinez; if you must cancel, you need to make up those PE minutes.

~SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS~

Attendance Incentive Campaign

OUSD has been provided a unique opportunity to reward our students and schools for good and improved attendance.

Oakland Natives Give Back (ONGB) has announced that they will fund the Every Day Counts Attendance Campaign.

The campaign details are below.

1. District-wide Challenge- Students with near perfect attendance can compete for a chance to win $500. There will be 20 winners (district wide) awarded for the period covering October 12-November 12.

2. End-of-the-Year Celebration- a District-wide competition whereby schools sites compete for a chance to win a huge festival (for elementary and middle school) or a concert for a high school that has the highest attendance or most improved attendance rate.
3. BIG Challenge- This is a District-wide competition where school administrators will be invited to prepare an innovative and comprehensive year-long strategy to increase attendance at their sites. The school with the best plan will be awarded $25,000 to implement their plan.

The District Wide Challenge kicks off on Monday, October 12.

Families sign up to participate directly with ONGB either by completing an online registration form or a paper registration form. Paper registration forms should be deposited in a box that will be delivered to your site. You do not have to track to keep a record of the submitted forms.

Next week ONGB staff members will drop off registration forms and a box for depositing completed forms. ONGB will return to your site to pick up forms.

The 20 winners (district wide) will be selected from those families that register. Winners will be announced in early December.

Details regarding the End of Year Celebration and the Big Challenge will be provided within the next few weeks.

Profiling SEED in Innovative Public School Report

I wanted to share with you that SEED will be showcased in the upcoming report of Innovative Public Schools in Silicon Valley for building parent & community partnerships. We are one of 1/2 a dozen schools in the Bay Area highlighted as exemplars of world-class schools in the area of family engagement.

They will be visiting SEED on Monday, October 12th.

According to Peter Mcelroy, Research & Policy Manager, they did a thorough screen of the area schools.

The outcome of all this will be a website, created with both educators and parents in mind, which will provide both abstract principles and concrete examples of great schools in action.

Congratulations for your important role & your contributions to make this school stand out!
