Notes and Updates
Dear Parents,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Qatar Spots Day last Tuesday. I myself went out and played some tennis and enjoyed my day off. This Sunday is Valentines Day. I have not received everyone's valentines so please make sure to send them in on Sunday. Also this week is Reading Week! We are going to have drop everything and other events to celebrate reading week. Make sure to ask students about their reading this week!
Last week, in reading students were discovering how to determine importance in non-fiction stories. They were trying to remember important parts by using the text features such as bold words and headings. They also were remembering things that were new and interesting. Then we tried to differentiate between the main idea and details to determine importance. Finally on 100th day we tried to read books about 100th day and read 100 words.
In writing, students continued to work on their books. They learned how to write comparisons, and bold words. Then we reviewed how a table of contents needs to match the headings in your book in which students made some revisions. Finally on 100th day students wrote about themselves and what they think they would be doing if the were 100 years old.
In Math, students worked on learning how to subtract two digit numbers using base 10 blocks, quick tens and ones, and the arrow way. Then we started working on problem solving and using a tape diagram. Finally students practiced using a 100's chart and played a game during 100th day.
In Science, students created an experiment in which they put celery stalks into colored water. We discovered that the stems of the celery carried the colored water to the leaves in which the water changed the color of the leaves and some of the stem. Then they made observational drawings and described the function of them stem. They also started an experiment with bean and put them in a bag with water. This week we will find out what happened!

Cheers,

As a school we teach healthy choices and snack is a good way to reinforce the message to your child.
