Team Bring It's visit to Drax
‘Team bring it’ participants from Year 9 and 10 went to DRAX to enhance their understanding of the production of electricity. Students were treated to a guided tour of the power station, during which they experienced first hand the detailed functions of electricity production. As part of this they were given demonstrations of the different components and how these function together to produce electricity.
DRAX is currently involved in actively tackling climate change and meeting government regulations, which include using renewable sources of energy and reducing harmful emissions; and students were allowed to see the work being done in this regard. Further to this, there was an insightful session during which students were made aware of potential career opportunities and apprenticeships that are available in this field.
Worthy ambassadors as they are; the school was commendably represented - with students consistently demonstrating all three core values. This was noted by the tour guide who acclaimed the students for their maturity and civility, which the guide felt made his role as a guide enjoyable. The guide specifically commended our young ambassadors for actively taking part in discussions and for their awareness of relevant scientific questions and answers.
It was indeed an illustrative and enjoyable experience for both myself and the students.
