NEW PE & Health Standards!

Did you know that the Oregon Department of Education and a committed group of individuals have been working on new health and physical education standards? Two standards review committees were announced earlier this year, and these groups have been working very hard to create a set of standards for each health and physical education teacher to use. We had three members from the Oregon SHAPE board of directors on these committees. The new standards will be recommended for adoption to the state board at the end of June.

Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Advocacy Opportunities!

Did you know that school health and physical education are now identified as part of a student’s “well-rounded” education under the ESSA bill? Every region in our state is hosting a forum on the new Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Now is the time to attend to find out more on ESSA and advocate for health and physical education! Click here to read our blog post to find out when these forums will be in your neighborhood!

What else has changed from NCLB to ESSA? Sportime and SPARK are partnering with SHAPE America and ASCD to share out a FREE webinar on May 5th, 5pm Pacific. If you can't make it live, all webinars will be archived to view at your convenience on SPARKecademy.org.
