Who is Shuttlesworth?

Fred Shuttlesworth was a civil rights activist that did many things to improve the lives of black Americans. He took part in things like cofounding the Southern Christian Leadership conference, participating in the Freedom Rides, and more. These events took place in the 1960's.

Thoreau and Shuttlesworth

I think Shuttlesworth and Thoreau compare in many ways because they both stood against something they believed in. The things they believed in were against the government or what the government stood for. A quote from "Civil Disobediance" that i think Shuttlesworth connects to is "Let every man make known what kind of government would command his respect, and that will be one step toward obtaining it...". I think that Shuttlesworth would agree because this is essentially what he fought for, the respect of everybody from the government.
