A Message From Our Principal
Dear Springfield Elementary Parents,
We hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break! On behalf of our staff, I would like to thank all those that were able to make it to our Literacy Night this year on November 14. There was a great turnout this year. We received a lot of positive feedback for the changes we made this year and will continue to look for ways to make this as beneficial as possible for our parents and students. A big shout out goes to our literacy committee and staff for organizing the event!
Our seventh annual “Red Bag Campaign” was a success! Our school raised nearly $3000 for volunteer shoppers to purchase gifts for 26 children. We appreciate your continued support for this program as it will definitely help make the holiday season special for many children!
It is hard to believe that the first semester of the school year is coming to a close. Our winter holiday break begins on December 21 which is an early dismissal day for all. Elementary schools will be dismissed at 11:00 am. Students return from the winter break on Thursday, January 4, for a regular school day.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make this school year as successful as possible for all of our students! We hope that you have a wonderful holiday break and wish you a happy new year in 2018!

Seasons Readings to ALL! There are lots and lots of great holiday and winter books just waiting to be read in our library! This is the perfect season to clear out old or new greeting cards! We use the picture side of cards for bookmarks, so recycle those cards by sending them in! The library also continues to need starburst candy for reward incentives, 24 or 100 piece puzzles for our tables, and old or new books at your house that are just collecting dust for library shelves and/or classrooms!
Thanks for all your support in 2017!
Technology:
Half the school year is almost over! Wow this year has really gone fast. In all classes we have been working on Digital Citizenship and Online Safety practices. The last few weeks of December we will be doing activities involving coding. The greatest website is the Hour of Code with many activities to try coding. Here is the link https://hourofcode.com/us/learn
Happy Holidays!
PE:
One activity we are having a major focus on this year is jumping rope. Did you know that activities with BOTH physical and mental demands, like jumping rope, have higher impacts on cognitive functioning than exercise tasks alone? Jumping rope requires coordination, rhythm, balance, strength and stamina. As part of our daily warm up, students have the opportunity to practice their jump roping skills as well as challenge themselves with tricks like “the bell,” “ the skier” and even “double unders!” 4th and 5th graders will be a part of our Minute Club challenge where they will see how long they can go without stopping up to 3 minutes. Many students have been working VERY hard to accomplish this challenge! Please encourage your student to practice at home!
Notes from the Nurse
Hello! As a reminder, I am the new nurse for SFES. My name is Mindi Moore. I am now listed in the school directory. However, it says “Sara Moore”….this is indeed me! Please email me with any concerns. I will be calling to follow up on students with health care needs that need maintained at school, ie asthma. Also, I could use donations of elastic waist pants and shoes for the Health Room.
Thank you so much!

Red Bag
The school collected $2,882.83 for the Red Bag Campaign.
This year, in combination with the Fort Mill Church of God, our school will be buying presents for 39 children in the Fort Mill area.
Ms. Hazelwood's homeroom took the lead on the final day and collected the largest class donation of $255.60. They earned themselves a pizza party lunch.
The gifts will be wrapped during the school days on December 6th, 7th, and 8th.
Thank you for your generosity!
