Week 8
A Note From Kindergarten
Hi Kindergarten Eagles,
We miss you all so much! This week is going to be a great week with lots of fun activities! We love to see your awesome learning at home. Students, we are so proud of you! Parents, we want you to know that we are committed to helping your child succeed where they are to learn and grow for the rest of the school year. No kids are ahead or behind, your student is exactly where they need to be. In the Fall, teachers will meet your student where they are and help them continue to grow despite the challenges that come with home learning. Don’t stress about school, just do the best you can! At this time of the school year, Kindergarten does a fun ABC countdown of activities each day that make learning fun. We have shared our ABC Countdown with fun activities in hopes that you can have some fun with your student as the Kindergarten year comes to an end. Check off each letter when you have done the fun activity from A to Z! This is optional and just for fun.
If you need anything, please reach out to your child’s teacher!
Love,
Ms. Gorsalitz, Mrs. Major, Mrs. Wieghat, Ms. Murphy, Mrs. Medina, Mrs. Andrada, Mrs. Vanckhoven, Mrs. Pitt
Fun Fact: A chameleon can stretch its tongue more than three times the length of its body!

Reading
Informational Texts
For this week we will focus on Nonfiction, or informational texts
Activity 1
Read your student the text "Fruit Bats".
Activity 2
Students will respond to reading by completing the Fruit Bats response paper. You can also use any paper to write one fact that they learned from the text and draw a picture.
Parents/Guardians : Here are a few questions to help your reader think about the text.
What did you already know about the topic of this text before reading?
What is this book mainly about?
Can you teach me something that you learned from this text and show me where you learned it? (point to evidence in text)
Did this text remind you of anything? (make a personal connection)
Please make sure your child is reading everyday for 20 minutes. Reading can be online books or books you have at home.
Happy Reading!

Social/Emotional Learning
Weekly Theme: Resilience
Resilience - Learning to be flexible
Part of resilience is being flexible. When we are flexible, we will not “break” when faced with disappointments and challenges. We have all certainly learned to be flexible in order to adapt to our “new normal” of teaching and learning virtually. As the last month of school approaches, we must remind ourselves and our students to continue to be flexible as we close out this school year like never before.
1.Choose any of the following read alouds:
Grumpy Monkey- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wylzbbSL668 and how the “grumpy monkey” was able to identify how he was feeling but still able to see the positive.
The Dot- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5mGeR4AQdM&list=PLJdq3OzEoR1ixDpRHndUT8alu8l5sBJ5a&index=5 and how to be flexible and to be yourself.
The Perfectly Messed Up Story- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5RseyIi7Uk&feature=youtu.be and how to find the positive when things keep going wrong.
The Most Magnificent Thing- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UM8oN4yzJqw&feature=youtu.be and how a girl struggles to build the most magnificent things.
2.Complete the following activity: Squiggle Pics. This is a flexible thinking exercise. Have your student add to the doodle to make something amazing. Ask your student what it is!
