Mr. Aleman's Monday Mail

Where you know what we know so we all know

Quote of the Week

"The price of greatness is responsibility." - Winston Churchill

Week of September 22, 2014

We have been working hard on ADDING and SUBTRACTING whole numbers with two strategies: HTO CHART and JUMPING. Check your child's journal for help with these two strategies. This week we will be adding and subtracting DECIMALS and ROUNDING to find reasonable results. Rounding is difficult for students, especially because in 4th grade we round up to the HUNDRED THOUSANDS place. Practice! Practice! Practice!
Rounding to the Nearest Ten

Now that we know what this year holds for us in Science, we're ready to start learning about it! This week begins our unit on MATTER. Matter is anything that has MASS and takes up SPACE. We will be learning how to CLASSIFY and MEASURE mass. This week we are learning how to measure an object's LENGTH. We will be using scientific tools, like rulers and meter sticks to measure in MILLIMETERS, CENTIMETERS and METERS.

  • Homework for the week is pages 121-122 in the MOTIVATION MATH workbook. Please make sure your child is HI-LIGHTING the question and CIRCLING important information for each problem on the homework. This week, homework is due THURSDAY.
  • MULTIPLICATION HOMEWORK is coming home this week. Please make sure your child is studying their facts each and every night. This week we are studying our THREES. There will be a QUIZ on THURSDAY.
  • Encourage your child to be a part of the MILLIONAIRES CLUB. Students that can read ONE MILLION words by the end of the year will be invited. You can check your child's status through AR.
  • FAIR DAY is FRIDAY. There will be no school that day.
