Pawsome News
October 18, 2019
Dear Pawsome Loring Families,
As I was walking down the hallway, I came across these beautiful pumpkins (see below) created by some of our 5th grade artists! I couldn't pass up sharing these 5th grade night pumpkins!
Thanks in advance for taking a few minutes to read over the information in this newsletter. If you have any questions, please reach out.
Sara Harvey, Principal
New Staff Welcome
Mrs. Harmon is from Buenos Aries, Argentina. She moved to the United States in 2000. While in the United States, she has been teaching Spanish and tutoring Spanish students as well as working as a translator and interpreter. We are very excited to have Mrs. Harmon join our Loring community.
While we have been working to secure the right person for this important teaching position, Mrs. Beverly Hugo has been our substitute teacher. Mrs. Hugo has done a Pawsome job keeping up with the district's curriculum, planning fun and exciting Spanish lessons for students, and helping to set up a welcoming and supportive classroom community. Mrs. Hugo will be helping as Mrs. Harmon transitions to Loring over the next few weeks co-teaching the Spanish classes.

Mindfulness Activities You Can Do as a Family
When you are being mindful, you are paying attention to what you are seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling – everything in this moment, right now. In classrooms throughout Loring, we are talking about and practicing mindfulness. I wanted to also share some ideas for mindfulness activities you can do at home with your children and as a family.

Kindness Library
There will be a Kindness Library placed at Loring near the bike rack. A former Loring student (5th grader in 2014), Joe applied for a service project through the Martin Richard foundation which is a foundation promoting peace and kindness. The foundation was created after the death of Martin Richard, the eight year old who died in the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. For
For Joe's project, he decided to make three box libraries (one for each person killed in the bombings), boxed libraries are wooden boxes on stands that hold books for people to read and return. He has asked to have one of his Kindness libraries at Loring Elementary School, his former school. We hope you are as excited about this great addition to our school campus as we are.
