Stone Bank Woodworking Event: Picnic Table Project
TOMORROW - October 19, 2019
9:30 AM-1:30 PM
On Saturday, October 19, 2019 Stone Bank students/parents are invited to join our initial community working event. Based on the request of some of our middle schoolers, we have planned to build 3 outdoor picnic tables.
We are excited to share the event is being supported thanks in part to a tool donation from Milwaukee Tools. The Waukesha County Business Alliance helps to coordinate the donation and we are excited to put the tools to use. In addition, we are thankful for the support of the Stone Bank PTO. The PTO has been a long-time champion of raising funds to help support school/student requests.
The event will is being planned with a technical education teacher from the Waukesha STEM Academy, and under his guidance, we will create a safe environment for constructing the tables. In addition, adults will be using/modeling the use of certain power tools, and students will be guided on the safe use of specific age-appropriate tools.
Given the nature of the event, we do require a parent to participate/accompany their child. We plan to hold the event outside on the middle school playground. To help us plan for the event, please RSVP to: kmagnuson@stonebank..k12.wi.us
Expertise/Volunteers? If you have experience in woodworking, or similar projects, and wish to volunteer please let us know! r.krohn@waukesha.k12.wi.us

One Warm Coat Drive
Do you have any extra coats at your house that are too small or that you don’t like?
We are asking you and your families to donate gently used or new winter coats to our local One Warm Coat Drive! There are many in Waukesha and Milwaukee County who do not have access to warm, winter outdoor wear. Please check your home for winter coats that are not going to be used this year and bring them to the front office by the end of this month. We welcome hats and mittens too. Let’s help get unused coats to kids who need them before the snow flies.
Donations will go to Hope Center in Waukesha for families in need.
We are also accepting gently used shoes that will be transported to Oakwood church in Hartland. A local non-profit organization, sole for Jesus. They will coordinate a shipment to Sub-Saharan Africa.

Too Good for Drugs Curriculum
Our 6th graders have started some lessons using the Too Good For Drugs Curriculum. They are participating in these lessons once a week during Empower time with Mrs. Zdrojewski. These lessons include activities to strengthen knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and skills effective for drug prevention. We started off with talking about setting reachable goals and the steps to take in order to reach those goals. We have also began talking about a decision making model that promotes avoiding things that will have a negative consequence on our lives. This program provides a Home Workout for each lesson. Click on the link to discuss with your child.
As always, we encourage you to speak to your children about these important topics. They are listening. Here are some helpful links to get the conversations started.
Keeping Kids Safe
October is Keeping Kids Safe Online Month. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) have designated this month to highlight the need for responsible internet practices for schools and families.
Throughout the month, our students are learning about Digital Citizenship in a variety of ways and at different levels. Some of the topics we cover include: copyright and plagiarism, cyberbullying digital footprint, online relationships, identity theft, personal privacy and security, safe gaming and social media.
If you’d like to continue the conversation at home, check out the Interact cyber safety course created by the DPI and DOJ. You may also choose to create a family media/device plan. There are some examples from DPI and DOJ here, and a whole Family Media Toolkit from Common Sense Media here. And finally, you may be interested in the Protect Kids Online Podcast from the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
