Boys Bowling Reaches State Semifinals
Hewitt-Trussville Boys Bowling finished the 2020-2021 season with a 17-4 overall record and a Final Four appearance. The Huskies opened the State Tournament on Friday with a quarterfinal match against defending champion Thompson. The Huskies trailed the entire match and went into the last Baker game facing a daunting 96-pin deficit. HT then pulled off an incredible rally winning the final Baker game by 108 pins to secure a 12-pin victory. The score of 1672 was the highest of the season for HT. The 1672 was also the second best team score in the history of AHSAA postseason play. Kyle Wright rolled a 243 to lead the Huskies.
Coach Tommy Abney's team then moved on to the State Semifinals to face Sparkman. The Senators took the win by the score of 1526-1411. Sparkman went on to capture the State title later in the day.

Track and Field Tunes Up For State Meet
Hewitt-Trussville Indoor Track traveled back to the Birmingham Crossplex on Saturday to compete in the Last Chance Invitational. The Huskies put together a strong performance in the final event before the State Meet. HT is set to compete for a State title on February 6.

Jacob Copham Bryant-Jordan Award Update
Hewitt-Trussville Senior Jacob Copham was recently named the 7A Region 3 representative for the prestigious Bryant-Jordan Scholar-Athlete Award. Copham was the school nominee then was voted as the Area and Region winner. Next month the state selection committee will meet to select class and overall winners.

Girls Basketball Cruises Past Gadsden City
A big first quarter spurt led to a runaway victory for Hewitt-Trussville Girls Basketball Friday night. The Huskies finished the night with a 61-33 win over Gadsden City. The Huskies finished Area competition with a 4-2 record and will be the #2 seed in the 7A Area 6 Tournament.
Gadsden City jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but the Huskies scored 15 consecutive points to close the quarter. Senior Amiya Payne led HT in scoring with 21 points. Audre Benson hit a pair of shots from behind the arc and finished with 13 points. Jordan Hunter and April Hooks added eight points each.

HT will host Spain Park in the 7A Area 6 Tournament Semifinal on February 9. More details concerning the Area Tournament will be shared later this week.

Boys Basketball Wins Area Finale
The Hewitt-Trussville Boys Basketball team defeated Gadsden City 62-60 on Friday night in the final regular season Area game of the season. HT led by two points with just seconds remaining. The HT defense stood strong to preserve the win. Carter Hollis scored 10 first half points and finished with 16 points for the game. Tyler Pickett also scored 16 points including going 4-4 from the line in the final quarter. Ray Rolley added nine points.
Friday night's game was tight throughout. The Huskies led 12-11 after the first quarter and 25-23 at halftime. HT extended the lead in the third quarter before Gadsden City battled back. The Huskies were 8 of 12 from the line in the final period.

Wrestling Closes Regular Season With Two 7A Wins
Hewitt-Trussville Wrestling continues to impress as they near the State Championship event. On Thursday, the Huskies defeated James Clemens 61-12 and Hoover 47-24 inside Bryant Bank Arena. HT is now 22-6 overall on the season. The Huskies will compete in the AHSAA 7A State Championships February 12-13.
In the victory over James Clemens, these Huskies picked up wins: Chris Weaver, Dalton Zimmerman, Karson Burke, Seth Hall, Logan Reaves, Lucas Reaves, Cameron Cantwell, Hunter Jones, Chris Hawkins, Harrison Asbury, and Clark Box.
In the victory over Hoover, these Huskies picked up wins: Dalton Zimmerman, Seth Hall, Logan Reaves, Lucas Reaves, Andrew Shelton, Luke Golden, Hunter Jones, Chris Hawkins, and Chris Weaver.
Tennis Opens Season With a Sweep
Hewitt-Trussville Tennis opened the 2021 in frigid temperatures Monday, but the Huskies are off to a hot start. HT defeated Tuscaloosa County to improve to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in 7A Section 3 competition.
The HT Boys beat the Wildcats 9-0. Joshua Blake, Connor Newton, Chase Armstrong, Drew Gardner, Nolan Armstrong, and Cole Vest all picked up singles wins. Joshua Blake and Drew Gardner won at #1 doubles. Connor Newton and Nolan Armstrong won at #2 doubles and Chase Armstrong and Zach Stutsman won at #3 doubles.
The HT Girls topped Tuscaloosa County 8-1. Isabella Hall, Emma Grace McElwain, Anna Beth Hill, Yasmin Fisher, and Talia Talley all picked up wins in singles play. Blakely Valdez and Emma Grace McElwain won at #1 doubles. Isabella Hall and Anna Beth Hill won the #2 doubles match. Yasmin Fisher and Talia Talley won at #3 doubles.
The HT Girls will travel to Mountain Brook on Thursday. The HT Boys will be back in action next Monday vs Hoover.

Boys Golf to Open Season February 15

7th Grade Boys Basketball Finishes 2nd in Metro
Coach Josh Warren's 7th Grade Boys Basketball team made a deep run in the 2021 Metro Tournament and finished in 2nd place. The Huskies opened the event by defeating Liberty Park 41-23. HT then advanced to the quarterfinals to face Simmons, who was hosting the tournament. The game went to overtime and the Huskies prevailed 58-46.
In the tournament semifinals, Hewitt-Trussville trailed Homewood 16-2 early, but rallied to win 45-43. The Huskies would drop the championship game to Mountain Brook 56-44.
HTMS Cheer Tryout Information
There will be a mandatory parent meeting for 2021-2022 HTMS Cheer on February 4 at 6pm in the HTMS gym. Mandatory Cheer clinic and tryouts will be held the week of March 8-12. Please see the flier below.
