Rogers and Roberts Update
March 2, 2017
ELA
For the last two weeks we've been learning about figurative language, what it means, and how it enriches the stories we are reading and can enrich our writing. The students also learned to explain the major differences between poetry, prose and drama. Performing the play "The Unstoppable Ruby Bridges" and reading lots of poetry these last few weeks have helped students understand casts of characters, settings, stage directions, stanza, line, rhyme, rhythm etc.
Math
We are quickly approaching the end of 3rd quarter. Our most recent math standards have been on comparing decimals to fractions. My students are currently working on a "real world" problem where they are comparing rates at various cell phone companies. After comparing (doing the math), they have to select which plan is best and make a class presentation defending their choice. I look forward to seeing the results!
