Safety for riding bikes and scooters
Spring is officially here and with that comes more bicycles, skateboards and scooters being ridden to school. We would like to take the opportunity to encourage the parents to talk with the children about bike and scooter safety.
As a school, we expect the riders to respect and listen to our safety/service members on the corner. If riding on the sidewalk and approach a corner with a safety, the rider most stop and follow the directions of the safety. Once on school property, students should walk their bikes and scooters or carry their skateboards. No student should ride in the school parking lot. The parking lot is a very active area and has the potential of being very dangerous for any student on a bike, scooter or skateboard.
One School One Book - Reading Month
The month of March concluded with the students finishing "A Boy Called Bat". Thank you PTO for providing a copy of the book to each Trombly student and for providing the opportunity to Skype with author Elana Arnold.

Leader in Me - Habit #6 - Syngergize
Welcome to the April edition of our Leader in Me newsletter!
Published by the Trombly Family Learning Team
This month, we are learning about Habit 6: Synergize.
Together Is Better-Creativity, cooperation, diversity, and humility. This habit is achieved when two or more people work together to create a better solution than either would have thought of alone. It’s not your way or my way, but a better way. Think of 1 + 1 = 3 (or more). How is that possible? Well, 1 person + another person = 2 ideas + many, many more that neither of them would have thought of alone. It’s taking good ideas and making them better by working together and looking for a third alternative.
Books that reinforce Habit 6: Boxes by Katje by Candace Fleming, Energy Island by Allan Drummond, A Wrinkle in Time Novel by Madeleine L'Engle, The City of Ember by Joanne DePrau, Imagination According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney, Game Changers Playmakers by Mike Lupica
Leader in me at home: Expect your child to use words and phrases like synergy, working together, 1 + 1 = 3 (or more), and “better idea than we could come up with alone” in their conversations, You can encourage your child by using some of these words at home. Synergy is a great tool for families. We’d love to hear your synergy experiences!

Thank you for your partnership in reinforcing your child’s leadership skills.
Camp Invention is Returning to GPPS!
In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF), Brownell Middle School is pleased to offer the nationally acclaimed Camp Invention® program to children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. It’s an exciting, weeklong summer adventure with lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation. Children work together to create solutions to real-world problems and build critical 21st-century skills while rotating through several high-energy, hands-on modules. The week begins on June 24, 2019 with Caitlin Kefgen serving as Director of the ALL-NEW 2019 program, Supercharged!
Here are how young innovators will be spending their time:
· Exploring the electrifying relationship between frequency, circuitry, motors and gears through reverse-engineering and rebuilding their very own remote-controlled robot.
· Unearthing hidden fossils then building ships and innovative equipment to embark on a research expedition to uncover more exciting information about their discovery.
· Coding and programming robot, Bot-ANN-E, to take on duties and help turn a polluted wasteland into a fruitful farm and successful business.
· Collaborating with the Innovation Force®, a team of NIHF Inventors turned action-packed superheroes, to design superhero gadgets and disguises, explore the fields of engineering and fabrication and take on the sinister villain, the Plagiarizer.
Activities give participants the opportunity to explore, discover and achieve while having fun!
Local educators facilitate program modules and enthusiastic high-school students serve as Leadership Interns, ensuring that one staff member is in place for every eight children.
