A weekly update from Carleton Middle School
Some Opportunities
If you visited our Open House event during the second week of school, you heard Dr. Livernois speak about the importance of belonging and having a sense of membership while in middle school. Although our sports teams are only available to 7th and 8th graders, below is a short list of other offerings at Carleton.
Yearbook Club - (6th, 7th, and 8th graders) - Yearbook Club begins on Monday after school. Students completed applications and have been in contact with Ms. Hardy about this opportunity. If your son or daughter is still interested, have them see Ms. Hardy.
Art Club - (6th, 7th, and 8th graders) - Art Club will be beginning shortly for those students that have a passion for creativity, exploration, and creation. Announcements for dates will be shared in the coming weeks. Please reach out to Ms. Cleary for more details.
Game Club - (6th, 7th, and 8th graders) - Mondays after school, we have a game club for those students that enjoy Chess, Checkers, Jenga, and a number of other board games. If your son or daughter is looking for something to do after school on Mondays and to meet a great group of students, consider having them join this club. You can contact Mr. Kausch for more details.
Ecology Club - (6th, 7th, and 8th graders) - Ecology Club will have their first meeting of the year on Wednesday October 11th, after school in Ms. Gjelaj's room. Students interested can contact either Ms. Gjelaj or Ms. Lipe for more information. In short, students will pursue various ways to help our school become more "green" and eco-friendly. This is another great way to make a positive change in our school and community.
Washington D.C. - (8th grade students) - Our 8th grade students will have an opportunity to visit Washington D.C. on June 21-25, 2018 to learn more about American History. There will be an informational parent meeting on Tuesday, October 17th at 7pm in the Media Center. The meeting shouldn't be more than 30 minutes. Please contact Mr. Grifka for more details.
As you can see, we have many opportunities for students to be involved and there are more clubs, organizations, and groups that we did not list. So we encourage you and your child to become/stay involved during the middle school years.

Thank you!
This week we celebrated Custodian Appreciation Day at Carleton Middle School. I would just like to take a brief moment and thank Beckie, Matt, and Rick for their tremendous effort, hard work, and follow through at our school. Everyday our school looks amazing with general maintenance and upkeep but they are outstanding with responding to the various needs of our students and staff. They are the foundation for a safe, orderly, and optimal learning environment.
We also had our yearly Count Day on October 4th. As many of you know, this is how we obtain funding for our students throughout the year. Ninety percent of our state funding is established as a result of this day's "count" of students. Thank you to our teachers and office team for being so accurate with attendance on this important date.

Parents,
Next week on Tuesday the Extra Credit Union will be here to help us celebrate attendance month. The Extra Credit Union will be sponsoring a cash grab money machine and students with excellent attendance will be eligible to have their name drawn for an opportunity to grab some money.
In addition to this fun reward, students who have the proper paperwork filled out can make deposits to their savings account every month. After opening an account, the Extra Credit Union pays students for their quarterly grades providing $2 for an A and $1 for a B. Money will not be eligible to withdraw at Carelton but can be withdrawn at the Extra Credit Union bank. This is a great way to start a savings account for your child's future education or other expenses.
