Calling all HSE 6th-8th Grade Girls, Parents and Teachers!
The West Harris County American Association of University Women invites all 6th-8th grade girls to the annual Girls in STEM celebration, Expanding Your Horizons in Math and Science. EYH is a day-long conference where professional women share their enthusiasm and experiences working in scientific, technical and financial careers through hands-on educational sessions.
Saturday, February 23, 2019
8:00 a.m.- 3:15 p.m.
$6 per student | $6 per adult
Fee includes: Bus transportation from HSE (optional), light breakfast, lunch, four hands-on sessions with professional women in STEM fields, and a keynote presentation by artist Bridgette Mongeon (http://creativesculpture.com/).

HSE will be hosting a speed cube competition on Friday, February 22nd.

Science Bowl
The fast-paced question-and-answer competition includes questions about astronomy, earth and life sciences, computer science and technology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and general science.
Students in 6th-8th grade can apply to join one of the three 5-person teams forming at HSE. Participants must be willing to study on their own and must be able to attend the Regional competition at Texas ATM on March 2nd, 2019.
Should they qualify, the National Championships will be held in Washington DC the weekend of April 25th.

HSE- Houston Parent Academy
The Parent Academy consists of a series of inspirational sessions covering a wide variety of topics - from how to help your children in reading and math to bullying prevention and improving health and wellness. It is our hope that as you attend these sessions, you will gain valuable information regarding diverse tools, strategies, and resources that help nurture student's academic, social, and emotional development.
HSE Parent Academy
Professionals will provide information about how to take advantage of programs and resources that are valuable for you and your family. There will be free childcare. Your student(s) will receive one-day free dress pass since your participation.

Parenting & Child Development: "When Life is Stressful, What Happens to the Family and What to do about it" The importance of mental health in a stressful world. Negative consequences of stress ranging from physical health to suicide and things to do to reduce stress and improve quality of life.
Bullying / Cyber Bullying: How to recognize and prevent children from bullying and cybers bullying.
Financial Literacy 101: Difference between a bank and a credit union, building a basic budget, quick savings tips all at a high level.
