Dear Families,
I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends, and that your December is off to a strong and festive start. December is a busy time of year with the second marking period in full-swing, the Winter athletics season launching this week, and all of our students and staff working hard to bring 2022 to a strong and proud finish.
Please read on for some updates from the district and the Curriculum Department. Also, enjoy the look back at November, and a peek at the exciting events ahead in December and the New Year!
Wishing you and your families all the best this holiday season!

November Edition by Mrs. Lori Skibinski
November came and went in the blink of an eye and as always, a rolling stone gathers no moss in the West Long Branch School District. Throughout the month, the staff, students and families have continued their investment in the academic, social and emotional growth of students through a variety of activities, projects and initiatives. In only a few short November weeks, the following have taken place:
Local veterans shared their experiences with our school community
Students were recognized as SPARTAN character ambassadors and Genius Hours projects were featured at the Board of Education meeting
Content-area projects were completed and adorned the hallways
Teamwork was at play in physical education class and in intramural sports
Lunch time sing-a-longs filled the cafeteria, courtesy of our own Mr. Straley
Staff and students embraced supporting the less fortunate during the holiday and winter seasons
...and STEAM activities were set in motion as part of the AT program.
In addition to the curriculum being taught in the classroom, West Long Branch students are engaging in authentic activities that help to develop 21st century skills such as creative problem solving, effective communication, active listening and how to be a valuable member of a larger community. We are #ProudToBeWLB!
Another exciting Winter athletic season is upon us, and we can't wait to see our Boys' and Girls' Basketball and Cheerleading teams in action! It all starts Tuesday, December 6th with a double-header at HOME!
Please see below for the athletic calendar, and join us this season to cheer on our Spartan Athletes!
Back in June of 2021, as a requirement of receiving ARP funding from the Federal government, all school districts were required to create ARP Safe Return Plan documents detailing their pandemic mitigation measures related to COVID-19. Districts are required to update these plans every six months for the duration of the funding period, which spans 2021-2023.
The West Long Branch School District's plan was updated at the end of last school year, and now it is due for further revision to bring it in line with how our schools are currently operating. Happily, much has changed since the plan was originally written, and we are overjoyed that day-to-day operations in the district have returned to pre-pandemic protocols.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or comment regarding these draft revisions.
There is still time to donate to those in need!
Our fantastic PTA and WLB Foundation for Education are always hard at work supporting our schools. Thank you to all our family and parent volunteers, we appreciate you!
