GCA Teacher thanks PTSO for sponsoring a Virtual Field Trip
"I wanted to send you a quick thank you for sponsoring our virtual field trip this week. I wanted you to know of some of the positive effects of this experience.
(1) 90% of the students invited to the field trip, participated. Some even rescheduled conflicting events in order to attend this class live.
(2) All of the participating students completed an activity that will be used in their portfolio, with documentation of support from a member in their community (the Oxbow Meadows Assistant Director, who presented at the field trip.) This is a very big deal.
(3) At least three parents stated that, despite an imperfect technology, their student was “rapt” with attention.
(4) At the conclusion of the field trip, both the assistant director and the environmental educator, who worked together to present the animals and content of the class, stated that they were “abuzz” with new ideas. They are considering writing a grant proposal that will allow them to present similar virtual field trip to classrooms all over the country!
And finally (this one may be my favorite)
(5) At the conclusion of the class, one of our students stayed behind to talk to the ladies at Oxbow Meadows. She said that it was her dream to work with animals. At the conclusion of the conversation, the staff at Oxbow Meadows invited her to come “work” at Oxbow Meadows for a few hours with the staff. She could learn more about working with animals. The parent and staff at Oxbow Meadows are in the process of scheduling this special event.
It is difficult for me to quantify the impact of this special class. For weeks, the students had something special to look forward to. Now they have something special to remember. It was a wonderful break from the routine and aligned perfectly with the curriculum and the project they were working on. Thank you for your support of this event.
It’s a great day at GCA!"
