Music Notes

Back to School!
I'm so excited to see everyone in music after summer vacation. It's nice to catch up with students and meet new faces! In these first weeks of school, music instruction is designed to re-engage students with games, favorite songs, creative movement, and working in groups. We have discussed music classroom expectations and adopted rules for success in learning and growing as musicians. Students shared their hopes and dreams for music and decided on rules for the music room by making word pictures like the picture below:
The First Weeks of Music
In the past few weeks, music instruction included songs, games, and creative movement to help students work as a team and get to know each other. We reviewed strategies for working together with success. Students also composed melodies with partners, played ukulele, and identified higher & lower sounds on xylophones. Below are highlights of our learning:
Fifth Graders Create Movement to Dramatize a Chant as a Class and in Small Groups
Fourth Graders Play Ukulele While Singing
Third Graders Compose & Perform Melodies on Xylophones
Second Graders Create Movement in Response to Higher and Lower Music
Kindergarten and First Graders Play Xylophones to Find Higher & Lower Sounds:
