Notes and Updates
International Week was a huge success this week! 1G enjoyed the opening ceremony, visited the Qatari Tent, sampled yummy food from the international buffet and watched several different types of dances.
We celebrated the end of our Illustration Unit in writing yesterday by sharing our books with the class. After the break, we will launch our Nonfiction "All About" writing unit.
Readers have been reading picture books where characters learn a lesson or change over the course of the story. We have learned that many of the lessons our characters learn are also lessons WE need to learn, as well!
In Social Studies, we have launched our new unit, The World Around Us. We are learning the difference between wants and need. Ask your child what they NEED to live and grow. Students did an inquiry activity this week to see if they could discover the meaning of "ecosystem". Students will be learning all about the rain forest, grasslands, tundra and even more about the desert.
Mathematicians have been practicing measuring time and distance with nonstandard units of measurement. This is a short introduction to measurement. We will revisit these standards later in the year during our Measurement and Geometry unit.
Please make sure to visit my blog, http://skeane1g.blogspot.com for some lovely pictures of all the student's fun learning.
