As we all know cigarettes cause cancer, but do you know what other harmful things they cause? Not only to you, but to the environment and the people around you?
- Smoking doesn't just cause lung cancer, it causes at least 18 types of cancer all around your body. Smokers are 30% to 40% are more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes than non-smokers. Smoking also doubles the chance of get rheumatoid arthritis.
- Smoking around other people is not healthy for them either. Second hand smoke causes about 41,280 deaths a year. Second hand smoke is also a definite cause of stokes. Second hand smoke is very effective with children, it causes 430 sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) deaths in U.S. annually.
- Smokers also cause harm to the environment by littering their cigarette butts on the road, in yards, and on the sidewalk. Around the world there are about 4.3 trillion cigarette butts that litter the world. Birds and fish will think that the cigarette butt you threw in the street or in the water is food and they will try to eat the cigarette. The birds and fish end up dying from eating the filters of cigarettes.
