Happy Friday!
Happy Friday, everyone! I hope that you are all doing well and that you had an awesome week. We are wrapping up another successful week that included two more in-person Winter concerts, our Book Fair, and a vaccine clinic on Monday afternoon that resulted in nearly 500 students in our Rose Tree Media community receiving their second COVID vaccine dose. All in all, it was a positive and successful week.
On behalf of our Student Council, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this year's Joy Drive. Lots of gifts have been placed under our Spartan Giving Tree throughout the week. Those gifts will be distributed this holiday season to families in our community. Any remaining gifts that you are planning to purchase may be brought to school on Monday.
With less than two weeks to go before Winter Break, I have been encouraging our students to demonstrate their responsibility by....
1. Checking their grades in HAC and completing any outstanding work NOW.
2. Making good decisions about their words, actions, and social media posts.
3. Following our health and safety protocols related to masking, distancing at lunch, and frequent hand-washing.
Our goal is a positive, upbeat, and successful transition to Winter Break. I appreciate your support and reinforcement of these same expectations.
As always, thank you so much for taking a few minutes to review the information in this week's newsletter. Have a wonderful weekend and stay well!
MASKS - WE COULD STILL USE YOUR SUPPORT
In recent days, the number of students arriving to school without a mask has been on the increase. Masks breaking or becoming lost during recess is also a regular occurrence. While we have been able to remedy both of these situations by providing students with masks in the office, we are quickly exhausting our supply. To that end, we could use your assistance by ensuring that your child has a mask when they leave the house in the morning and prompting them this weekend to place a "spare" mask in a safe spot in their book bag. Thank you in advance for your support.

Spartan Bucks - Prize Table on 12/23
Students will have an opportunity to redeem some of their Spartan Bucks on December 23rd when we offer our first "Prize Table" of the year. Students will be able to purchase a wide range of small prizes with the Spartan Bucks they have earned thus far. We will also be raffling off some gift cards and limited edition spirit wear. We have been advertising some of the prizes this week during our daily announcements and students appear excited. Students earn Spartan Bucks by demonstrating the 4Rs - Ready, Respectful, Responsible, & Resilient. Each student's Spartan Bucks are managed electronically using a program called Live School. Students have access to Live School and are able to review their balances at any time. Ask you child to tell you more about Spartan Bucks, Live School, and the prizes that they are hoping to purchase.
Penncrest High School TOPS Shop - Penncrest Spirit Wear
The Penncrest High School TOPS Shop - Transition Opportunities for Post-Secondary Settings - is sponsoring a spirit wear sale of Penncrest gear. For our 8th grade students who will transition to Penncrest next year, this may be of interest. The deadline to order is NEXT WEEK - 12/15/21. Click HERE for more information.
WINTER CONCERTS - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
IN-PERSON, live concerts for the winter season will continue next week. Our students have been working hard to master their concert repertoire, and they are eager to share what they have learned. Our music teachers will be communicating specific details about the performances, but I wanted to take a moment to let you know some of what you can expect:
- There will be no limitation on the number of family members who are permitted to attend the concerts.
- Everyone in attendance must be masked at all times in accordance with the RTMSD Health & Safety Plan.
- The school will not implement any social-distancing measures in the audience.
- For those unable to attend in-person, the concerts will be live-streamed.
- Prepare to be entertained - our students will be excited to have you in the audience!

The honor is bestowed upon 20 outstanding and innovative educators, who have made a positive impact through their work and dedication. A total of $40,000 will be awarded to schools and educators!
Anyone can nominate a deserving teacher—fellow teachers, past and present students, school administrators, family members, and friends. Nominations should be based on teacher performance during the current school year or on cumulative efforts throughout his/her teaching career.
Please consider nominating one of our AWESOME Springton Lake staff members! Nominations will be accepted online through 12/17/21.
FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
With the onset of cold and flu season, we are seeing an increase in students on the absence list and those coming to school with COVID-like symptoms. Based on the Pennsylvania Department of Health current exclusion criteria, please keep your child home from school and get a COVID test if your child has:
ONE or more of the following:
- New cough, lack of smell or taste (without congestion), shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing,
OR TWO or more of the following:
- Fever (oral greater than 100 or temporal greater than 99.5), sore throat, chills, muscle pain, fatigue, headache, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
If your child has these symptoms, please keep them home and get a COVID test. If a student comes to the nurse’s office and meets the above criteria, they will be sent home and will require a COVID test to return to school. Please have a plan on how to pick your child up from school immediately if you receive a call from the school nurse.
Please note, if a student has a pending COVID test, they may not attend school until all results are back and negative. The exception to this is students who are fully vaccinated with a known exposure and who do not have symptoms. They may attend school while fully masked pending the results of their test. Home tests are not acceptable.
