Office Hours
**** No office hours on November 25
Every Tuesday from 3:15-4:00 I have what I refer to as office hours. This is a time when students may come in and begin their homework, work on the script or a reassessment video, or just receive additional help. This week we had several students in for the office hours and many finished all their math homework during that time. If your child wants to attend it is open for all. Below are some expectations for all who come. The purpose of sharing these are to make it clear that this time is for understanding math.
Expectations:
- Work on math material first.
- Keep voices down so that everyone can focus on their own material.
- If a student wants or needs a snack please make sure it is nut free.
Reassessment
In the same way we do varied assessments for the standards, there will be varied reassessments based on the topics and standards that are being reassessed during the second trimester.
6th Grade Math
This week we began with a class meeting about what went well in the first trimester and what could be improved or changed for the next one. With the time remaining at the end of the meeting, students reviewed for the chapter 2 test. On Tuesday students took the chapter 2 test. Wednesday we began to look at percents. For the first part of class students worked to understand percents. In the second half of class students worked to complete a table with the fraction, percent, 10 x 10 grid, and percent. On Thursday students were given white boards and were converting between fractions, percents, and decimals. Friday we ended our week with risk wall choices and I briefly introduced the unit 2 project. For the risk wall choices students selected between a reteaching worksheet, puzzle worksheet, and an ordering numbers activity related to the chart from Wednesday.
Algebra 1
This week began with a review of ratios and proportions. We reviewed how to do Because of the testing on Tuesday I gave students their homework in class and they were able to begin working on the problems. Tuesday there was no class because of the testing. On Wednesday we discussed proportions and similar figures. I also introduced the math part of the Red Glass Visual Model Project. Students were given legos to begin building and planning their designs. On Thursday students took a quiz on 1.1 & 3.1-3.3. The week ended with introducing distence-rate-time problems for half the class and working on their project for the second half. While working on the project there will be more videos for students to watch so that there is time for everyone to work on their project. Please keep me informed if there are any issues with watching the video's.
