Principal's Message
September 27, 2019
Good evening Willink Families,
I hope you’re already enjoying this final weekend in September. As we get set to complete our first “month” of school with the new start time, I’ve been having conversations with several students, staff, and parents about their thoughts to date.
While there are some challenges such as less time for evening activities, traffic at drop off/dismissal, and families adjusting to new morning routines, I must say that most of the feedback has been very positive. The students I’ve talked to report getting more sleep (though some say they’re still tired!). Many parents and staff have shared that mornings are less hectic and students are arriving to school seemingly more awake and ready to learn. It has only been a few weeks but I hope to continue to collect feedback and more concrete data points to share out as we move through the school year. I also welcome your thoughts and experiences as we move forward.
Next week brings some exciting events to the building. Our theme will be to “Think PINK” and encourage everyone in the building to show how important kindness is in their words and actions. Please click the link below for more details.
It has been wonderful to see many of our sports teams in action this week and I hope to see more of our students on the field, the course, and in the gym next week. I’d also ask families for their help and support in guiding our students toward appropriate participation at sporting events. We love to see Willink student supporting their peers at events but also need parents to be aware that students are not able to remain at the school until these contests begin. Students who want to watch a modified game do need to go home after school and return for the event. We do not have staffing to supervise students in the time between our activity period (3:15-3:45) and the typical sporting start time of 4:45. Thank you for your support with this.
For Willink students attending games at the high school, we also want to make safety a priority. If you are unable to attend the event with your child, please make sure to pick up/dropoff in either the Willink or Thomas parking lots (avoiding Publisher’s Parkway). We also ask that students are picked up in close proximity to the end of the games. For Friday night football games, this is typically around 10pm. For all of our fans, thank you for adhering to and modeling Webster’s CARE qualities!
In closing, I want to wish our Jewish families a Happy New Year and hope you enjoy the holiday in the weeks to come.
Take care,
Brian Powers
