Hillside Enrichment
At Home
Welcome!
Do you want your children to have opportunities to build, make, and be creative at home? Are you concerned about your child spending so much time on technology? New challenges will be released at the beginning of the week, but you may submit responses on any day.
Try out some of these activities below for any grade level:
Grade Level Options
Kindergarten Activity
Paper construction!
Using only 3 pieces of paper, create ANYTHING. It could be a structure, puppets, 3D-art, a self portrait, a favorite character, a book, or anything you can come up with! You can use up to 5 additional items, like scissors, tape, crayons, markers, feather, glitter, pasta, cereal, or anything your parents say you can use.
Upload a picture of your paper construction on this form!
1st Grade Activity
Be an inventor!
You can see the prompts on these slides or watch the video below for an introduction from me.
You can print this worksheet or use it as a guideline or work on any blank piece of paper.
Upload a picture of your invention plan on this form!
Problem ideas: staying connected during virtual learning, getting along with a sibling, keeping your room clean, staying focused on school work, being stuck at home, staying connected with friends, having to make your bed, not being near a library, or anything 1st graders would be directly connected to. Start with: what would you want to change in your life?
An invention is not just a solution to a problem. It must solve a problem AND be something new that never existed. The goal is to think like an inventor, even though these inventions may not work right away or be harder than you think.
2nd Grade Activity
As with all breakouts, sometimes we solve it and sometimes we don't. The goal is to notice all the details and give it your best try, not to continue working for hours until you solve it. Limit yourself to 30 minutes.
HINT: You need to COUNT for the 2nd and 4th locks. You can check out this HINT VIDEO!
Fill out this form after you've tried the breakout, so I can see how you did!
