Miss Scherer's Weekly Update
5B Humanities
Our Week (November 11th to 15th)
Students reviewed fiction and nonfiction skills (synonyms, antonyms, plot, character traits, and figurative language) with a text entitled, "House of Snakes." Then they demonstrated these skills on a Summative Assessment.
Students discussed what it means to have a positive effect on someone else's life. They read several passages and determined how one character had a positive effect on another character. Then, the students wrote letters to someone who has had a positive influence on their own lives. Students wrote to family members, teachers, friends, coaches, etc! Some students shared their letters with their classmates before delivering them.
Students completed a Word Study Test. They will get their new lists this week.
Learners continued to work on their Exploration Simulation Narrative Essay. They are choosing one or more of their journal log entries to expand upon. They are adding more details, different types of sentences and various types of figurative language including imagery.
All completed and graded tests have been given back to the students with the exception of the TDA Assessment. I will be sharing those at conferences. All grades have been uploaded to the Portal.
