Ruby Bridges Elementary- Where the Stars come to shine!
Thank You Veterans...
“For the veteran, thank you for bravely doing what you’re called to do so we can safely do what we’re free to do.” –Unknown
Ruby Bridges' Day- November 14th
In 1960, Ruby Bridges walked through the doors of William Frantz Elementary School, in New Orleans, Louisiana. By doing so, she became the first African-American student to attend an all-white elementary school in the Southern United States.
"On November 14, 1960, at just 6 years, Ruby Bridges became a symbol of the U.S. Civil Rights movement by marking the beginning of integration for U.S. public schools. A few months prior, the Supreme Court had issued a ruling on five combined cases ( Brown v. Board of Education) which impacted Bridges’s life and changed American history.
Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas aimed to end the idea of “separate but equal schools.” In many states, black students and white students could not attend the same school. On May 17, 1954, the Supreme Court ruled that segregation in U.S. public schools was against the Constitution.
Although it was illegal for schools to separate students by race, some states—especially in the South—did not follow the ruling. Five years after the Brown decision, little Ruby would become
the first student to integrate a Southern elementary school."

November- Native American History Month
"November is Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly refered to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month.
The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges."

Patience- To wait calmly for someone or something
Our life skill for the month of November is is patience. As Ruby Stars grow to embody the 4Bs, teachers will incorporate our life skill into the curriculum, community circles, Toolbox practices, and other SEL opportunities for learning, but we need your help.
We are also reviewing the following tools:
Empathy tool: I care for others and myself
Listening tool: I listen with my ears, my eyes, and my heart
Safe, quiet place tool: I remember my quiet safe place
Breathing tool: I calm myself and check-in
Here's how you can help us teach about patience at home:

Parking in Handicapped Spaces- Parking Lot Safety
This is a reminder that disabled/handicapped parking is for those displaying a current placard. In partnership with Alameda Police Department, your vehicle can be cited without proper identification displayed.
Also, in prioritizing student safety, there is no double parking. Please pick your child up from the curb. Do not allow your child to run into the street to meet your vehicle. Let's work together to keep our Stars safe.
New Menu Items
We are also mindful that some students have severe allergies to fish and shellfish, so please review the menu in advance and direct students to the allergy free table as necessary. You should also have medical forms and medication at school if your child has severe allergies. We are working with Nutrition Services to ensure safe choices for all Stars.
CAASPP scores- State Testing Results
Parent/Caregiver information on CAASP Scores:
Parents and caregivers are likely receiving communications from Educational Testing Service to deliver videos explaining students CAASPP reports. Parents have reached out wondering what these are and if they are spam. They are not spam. They are helpful in understanding the reports. Please be sure to let your families know that these are helpful videos that can help them to better understand their children’s CAASP scores.
