Principal Notes
What a great week to be a STALLION!
Last week we had a great time at Main Event! The students seemed to really appreciate being there and the adults (me) had a blast. We played basketball, lazertag, and even a few students challenged me to Guitar Hero (bad move!). Thank you again for having the best students in the land. I appreciate them meeting the expectations and taking care of their grades and behavior. We will do the same thing at the end of this 9 weeks!
See you around the campus...
Remember, we are the Best school with the Best students and the Best faculty and staff. Good, Better, Best!!! Never let it rest, until your good gets better and your better gets best!
Sincerely,
Leroy Bradley II

And the winner is…your child! Organizing, researching, and assembling a project for a contest builds many skills. Suggest that he search online for “student contests” and pick one in an area that interests him, perhaps science or writing. Or he could ask his teachers for ideas.

Paying close attention to math problems prevents careless mistakes. Remind your child to read directions carefully and underline important words before starting to solve one. For example, is that geometry problem asking for a “translation” or a “transformation”?

Parent-teacher conferences are for parents of big kids, too. Use the occasion to meet your tween or teen’s teachers, ask about her strengths and weaknesses, and share concerns you may have. Remember to exchange contact information for keeping in touch, too.

Encourage your child to send fan mail to celebrate National Author’s Day today. Most authors have websites, and many are on Facebook or Twitter. Your youngster can find contact information online and write an email, a post, or a tweet of appreciation.

Suggest that your tween or teen use a color code to prioritize entries in his student planner or calendar. He can write “must-do” items in red ink and “want to do” ones in blue. The colors will make it easy to tell at a glance what your child should do first.

Think of your child as an “adult in training” and teach him to do practical things for himself. You might add doing his own laundry or cooking a meal once a week to his regular routine. He’ll learn valuable life skills and build responsibility, too.

Strengthen family ties by having your teen use Skype or a similar app to arrange regular video chats with relatives who live far away. While you share family news, your teen will create connections with people he might not see otherwise—and practice conversation skills.
