KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
This week has been a busy one on the production front! It is coming together really well and we are excited to perform this on Wednesday next week. We are sure you will enjoy it, especially being outside and the weather looking much better for this day and night. It is very cool to see the kids so excited about doing the production, they certainly steal the show.
For any of our Year 6 students going to Devon Intermediate in 2020, the orientation day for them is this coming Thursday from 11am till 2pm. We will not be transporting any kids down, so it is up to parents to pick up your Yr 6 child from Vogeltown and take them down to Devon. We will not expect them to come back to school after 2pm.
At our last Vogeltown Board of Trustees meeting, we voted to sign up with the government's 'donation scheme' of $150 per student for 2020. By accepting this government scheme, we will not be asking our community for any donations towards the school. It also means we will be able to provide many more 'out of the classroom' travel opportunities - normally we would ask families for bus money as an example.
Congratulations Miss Bleasdale
Miss Bleasdale has worked hard to get all the requirements she needed to become a registered teacher. Big thanks to Ms Pretty who has been Jillian's mentor teacher over the last 2 years as well.
We celebrated Jillian's achievement with an awesome assembly. At this assembly we were lucky enough to have Whaea Ramona from NZEI to award Jillian with her teacher registration certificate!
Well done Jillian! You have become a great Vogeltowner. Manāki tangata, Manāki whenua, Haere whakamua.
Farewell to Mrs Baunton
Prior to this Mrs Baunton was part of the senior school and taught for many years in the classrooms on the senior side. Mrs Baunton has also been in charge of the school choir for many years and the school library - she has been an integral part of the school.
We appreciate all the time and effort Mrs Baunton has given to our school, our students and the PD she has provided too many of our parents/caregivers.
Mrs Baunton is having a nice staff farewell this coming Thursday, and will be making an appearance at our Vogeltowner assembly on the 6th December.
Thanks Dana for everything you have done for the school over your years at Vogeltown! You are a true Vogeltowner, with a genuine passion for changing kids attitudes!
New appointments at Vogeltown
We are happy to welcome Dani Melody to the middle syndicate team next year. Dani has been working in Rm 6 for the first half of this year, then Rm 4 for Miss King and is currently helping Mrs Newland in Rm 3. Dani and the middle syndicate team will be ably lead by Mrs Seed who will be the middle syndicate leader 2020.
We are also happy to welcome back Elly Fleming who was in Rm 13 in term 3 for Mr Stirling. Elly will be in the new classroom with a year 4 and 5 class of students in 2020.
The reason for having a year 4 and 5 class in 2020, is to help even our class numbers in the middle and senior areas of the school. This year our class sizes, especially in the senior school, have been above 30 students. Next year we hope to be able to keep all class sizes at or below 28 students. Our Board of Trustees are committed to keeping our class sizes manageable and with roll growth and a new learning space, we can finally achieve this.
See below for where everyone is going to be in 2020.

Teacher Only days 2020
We are working together with Highlands Intermediate, and other contributing schools to Highlands, to make sure our Teacher Only days in 2020 are on the same days, making it easier for our families in 2020.
The first Teacher Only Day in 2020 will be on Friday 7th February - the day after Waitangi Day. The second will be on Friday 20th March - this will be used for Learning Conferences.
The third day will be on Friday 31st July.
We are letting you know in advance so you can sort work leave and organise your kids for these days.
SCHOOL PRODUCTION - 'THE LEGEND OF PAETOKI'
It is a story about a famous rock in the Huatoki river called 'Paetoki'. It is a show with a bit of everything - singing, dancing, local legend and of course 'cuteness'. The end result of this production is that our syndicates will have new names in 2020 - local names that are a part of our legend. We will also be able to officially name this special rock, having received endorsement from our local hapu.
The kids and teachers are working really hard to make this an amazing evening. We will be performing this production outside on the senior front courts - hopefully the weather is fine! The postponement day is the next day - Thursday 28th November.
More information will be coming home next week about start times, holding rooms, costumes etc.
As part of this evening we are going to have a whanau hui before the production at 5.30pm in the new classroom at the senior school. We are asking any of our Maori whanau to come along to this hui. We will be confirming at this hui that the Vogeltown 'values' that we have been seeking feedback back on over the year, align with our whanau.

COMMUNITY NOTICES
FOODBANK DRIVE
The 2019 Christmas Foodbank Food Drive is taking place on Monday 2nd December from 5.30pm until late and we are trying to get the word out to as many people as possible about this community event. We would appreciate your support in spreading the word to the school whanau and beyond!.
All donations are distributed back into our community to families and people in need throughout 2020; donations of non-perishable food items and/or household products will be greatly received.
The food drive takes place in New Plymouth and Bell Block - the collection goes ahead RAIN, HAIL OR SHINE!!
During the drive donations can be left near the letterbox or front gate for collection or can be handed directly to our friendly volunteers as the collection teams drive around each neighbourhood. Sirens or music will be playing when they are in each area.
Help us to make this a successful drive and fill the foodbank shelves for the coming year!
Please give me a call or email if you have any questions.
