Incredible Innovative Learning
Wow! We have had a wonderful two weeks here at New Prospect!
Our NASA Event, Book Character Day and Builder Bunch in house field trip just verify how much our teachers and community supports the work we are doing with Literacy and STEM. Each event provided real-world experiences to the learning that occurs in our building every day. To increase student achievement (and to help us on those pesky tests) there needs to be a positive link to engagement. By involving students in meaningful, fun and real-world experiences we are making that link strong at NPE!
I am very honored to be a part of this amazing school and community!

Towers 101 Lego-based In-school Field Trip
Today, New Prospect Elementary School participated in the Builder Bunch Towers 101 Lego-based In-school Field Trip! Kindergarten through 5th grades had fun, interactive, hands-on experience in a Tower Build-off! (K-2 may remember the bridge building program from last year!) We have PTA to thank for bringing this to our entire school!
Students learned the history of towers, the science behind building tall towers, and how they are built to withstand the elements. The tallest tower that lasted the longest on the earthquake machine was crowned the winner! Make sure you ask your child about their experience today!

CCRPI
The CCRPI is Georgia’s statewide accountability system that replaced the No Child Left Behind’s Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measurement after the U.S. Department of Education granted Georgia’s waiver from NCLB in 2012. CCRPI measures schools and school districts on a 100-point scale, with overall scored made up of three major areas: Achievement (50 points possible), Progress (40 points possible) and Achievement Gap (10 points possible).
New Prospects' score is currently at an 89. Please see the Power Point below for more information on the specifics of our score. Although our score went down from last year, we are not worried at all. We are confident that we are doing all the right work and will continue to grow on the path that we are on.
Our SGC and school leadership team is always working on coming up with ways to make our student achievement and growth increase here at NPE. We are very excited for this data to helps us continue to make the right decisions for all of our students!
PBIS
We have new PBIS house winners for the month of October! Air house was our winner, with Ms. Wells as our winning classroom teacher. The winning classrooms were: Water House- Ms. Widis, Fire House- Ms. McCarthy, and Earth House- Ms. Zarzour. Congratulations to all our classes! Please make sure to join us on December 14th at Panther Parent Prep. We’ll be discussing ways to support positive behaviors at home.
The Character Counts trait of November is Gratitude. Students will learn what Gratitude is, why it is important, and how to express gratitude throughout the month of November. Studies show that cultivating gratitude can increase levels of happiness and lead to more positive attitudes towards school and family (Emmons, UC Davis study). You can help your child practice this trait by completing activities listed below.
- Write a letter of thanks to the teacher, bus driver, or other school staff member
- Create their own thank you cards, to have on hand for when they are needed.
- Draw a picture of something or someone that they are thankful for
- Choose a household item and write a story about what would happen if you didn’t have it (ex. Dishwasher, microwave, telephone, bed, toothbrush)
- Have your child name their blessings
- Be a grateful parent by telling your child what you appreciate them for (smiles, hugs, humor, etc)
- Resist the urge to shower them with too much “stuff” ‘all things in moderation’ can lead children to value and respect what they have even more.
- Encourage them to give back- help rake a neighbors leaves, volunteer at church or community center, etc.
- Have them interview a neighbor or family member about what they are most grateful for
