Mid-Quarter Update (February 2024)
Principal's Update
The second semester is flying by! We are already past the halfway point of the 3rd quarter, which means it is critically important that students and parents monitor grades using PowerSchool. Teachers may be contacting you if your students are struggling in class, as we want to make sure nobody falls into a hole too deep to climb out before quarter grades are finalized on March 14th.
Last week we had a mid-quarter assembly, during which Sources of Strength hosted a guest speaker who led the student body in a couple of fun games while also talking about the importance of healthy activities in managing stress. In addition, we talked about safety & security in our school building (lockdowns and hall-check procedures) and announced the updated Class Power Rankings. Through January, our 8th graders were again in the lead, retaining the Spirit Stick for a second consecutive month. However the Seniors still have a narrow lead in the overall rankings for the year (as they should!), so we will see if they can keep it in the coming months.
Athletics has also been extraordinarily busy as we near the end of basketball season. Our Lady Raiders showed incredible grit and effort in an exciting win over Liberty to take the District Championship. They open play at the State tournament at Columbia High School (in Nampa) this Thursday, 15 Feb at 2:00 PM. Meanwhile, our Boys team begins District play today with a home game against Centennial at 7:00 PM. Finally, our JH boys are having an excellent season, with a 5-2 overall record. For all our student-athletes, we are proud of their growth and tenacity this season, and we look forward to their continued success as the winter season wraps up and we begin Spring sports in just a few weeks!
I have been very pleased with how our students have responded to start this semester. The vast majority are behaving with the integrity and respect we are trying to instill at Rimrock, and their efforts have resulted in many individual, group, and team accomplishments. I look forward to seeing what else we will accomplish this year, both academically and athletically. I am proud to be a Raider, and I hope our students are as well.
College & Career Fair Tomorrow (13 February)
Thanks to the efforts of our Counselor, Mrs. Huschle-Renk (aka Mrs. H), tomorrow Rimrock will be hosting the Higher Ed Tour, which will be bringing in representatives of several colleges. We are also expecting military recruiters and a few local organizations to be present to share about career and college opportunities for our students. Grades 8 through 12 will have the opportunity to check out the various booths and think about their potential futures when the graduate from Rimrock.
