Happy Holidays from Room 124
*Wishing you and yours the merriest of holidays*
A Look at Our Week
This week has been a fun, enjoyable final week of the year. I'm sure you have all heard, but our classroom was under the watchful eye of our shelf elf, Ralphie. He wrote us class letters and individual letters. We learned the parts of a letter and some new punctuation (the comma!) so that we could write back to Ralphie. The sneaky little bugger did make a few messes (with glitter!) and he decorated our classroom so we looked a bit more festive. This morning we were all disappointed when we couldn't find Ralphie. However, he didn't let us down. In the middle of our read aloud this morning, Mrs. Noyes and Mrs. Paul brought down a package to our room from the North Pole! Inside we found a letter from Ralphie and 24 brand new books with cds all wrapped for our first grade friends! It was quite the surprise!
What's a Digraph?!
Digraphs are two letters that work together to make one sound. First graders are responsible for learning and knowing /th/, /sh/, /ch/, and /wh/. Below is a fun little song, which is now on my iPod (haha, seriously), that helped us recognize these sounds in words. It has a great beat and we loved the creativity! We might've listened to it 257 times.

New Math Standards!
This week we unpacked a new math standard; comparing numbers using <, >, and =. It has blended very nicely into our place value work. After vacation, we will take our assessment and then move on to word problems!
IXL would be a great tool to use over vacation. Students can work on any/all of the following: addition, subtraction, place value, and comparing numbers.
I hope you all have the most wonderful of holidays! Enjoy your families, friends and festivities. Stay healthy and warm and I will see you all next year!
I truly hope you all know how appreciative I am for your thoughtfulness, kindness, generosity and support. I love what I do and consider myself incredibly lucky to not only have 24 amazing kiddos each day, but to also have 24 involved and supportive families is icing on the cake for me. So, thank you! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
Love to you,
Ms. Montgomery
