PTA General Meeting - Tuesday, November 15th 6:30 p.m. in the Media Center
Please attend our 2nd meeting and come hear our guest speaker Cathy McCann on Cyber Safety. This presentation is very informative and helpful to protect our children in a cyber world.
The community seminar provides practical tools including Internet safety tips and how to: 1) access the Michigan Sex Offender Registry; 2) understand the impact of digital footprints; 3) appreciate the risk of sharing photos with embedded location information; 4) recognize the potential dangers and legal ramification of sexting; and 5) identify cyberbullying warning signs and develop a plan of action. This presentation will also cover what the students see in their respective presentations, as well as what OK2SAY is, and how it works.
December After-School Science
Can you believe, snowflakes as big as dinner plates? Turtles frozen in hail stones? Pink snow? Sometimes weather is just plain wild! Students will make pink snow and a tornado in a bottle. Then we’ll make our own version of lightening with Styrofoam beads and a balloon. Weather forecast…Wacky and Wild!
A.L.I.C.E. Lessons and Lockdown Drill
As you know, Northville Public Schools, in consultation with local police agencies and the ALICE Training Institute , along with guidance from various federal agencies, has adopted the ALICE protocol to enhance our existing safety and security procedures specifically in regard to a violent intruder response.
As part of our ALICE training timeline, ALICE student lessons will be taught to all Silver Springs students on Monday, November 14th. Our first ALICE enhanced lockdown drill will take place on Tuesday, November 15th. If you have questions or concerns please contact the school office. Thank you.
Leadership Day is coming soon!!!
Leadership Day is scheduled for Friday, December 9th from 9:15 - 11:55 a.m.
This year, we would like to invite new families to Silver Springs. Our hope is to show you how the 7 Habits have become the guiding principles in developing our school culture. You will also have the opportunity to visit classrooms to learn from our student leaders what the 7 Habits are, how the 7 Habits can become guiding principles in your home, and what common language can be used at home and at school.
Invitations went home last week to all new families. Please contact your child's teacher if you did not receive one and you are interested in attending.
We are also looking for some help to make Leadership Day successful for our students and guests. Please see the sign up genius link for items in need of donation as well as volunteer opportunities.

Supporting the The 7 Habits at home!
Habit #2 Begin with the End in Mind- "I have a plan"
What this means: Have a mission, a clear sense of where you want to go. Think about the end first- how are you going to get there?
“I plan ahead and set goals.”
“I do things that have meaning and make a difference”
“I am important part of my classroom.”
“I look for ways to be a good citizen.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. Write down your goals. It is said that "A goal not written is only a wish.”
2. Lay out your clothes for tomorrow the night before.
3. Write down 3 goals you want to accomplish.
Great Books for Habit #2 - Begin With the End in Mind
- The BFG by Roald Dahl
- When I Grow Up by Sean Covey
- Click Clack Moo Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin
- Little Bunny on the Move by Peter McCarty
- The School Story by Andrew Clements
