McClure Message Week 25
February 27 - March 3
There are a ton of ways to get involved at McClure. This week our band traveled to the LT Jazz festival, our Math team faced tough opponents at IMSA and our Battle of the Books teams wrestled for supremacy. Our Book Club has also chosen their March selection - Chirp by Kate Messner.
Now is also the time when we have lots of activities starting up. If your student is interested in boys volleyball, coed soccer, debate club, or girls softball please check out the daily announcements to make note of upcoming meetings.

Elective Choices
Elective choices will be due March 17th.
Illinois 5 Essentials Survey (repeat)
If at least 20 percent of parents at a school complete this survey, a parent supplemental report will be generated. Our response rate thus far is 18%. Parent identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
As required by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), this survey is designed and administered by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of each school across our state.
The survey gathers data related to five indicators that are correlated with important student outcomes. These five indicators are Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Involved Families, Supportive Environments, and Ambitious Instruction.
The Illinois State Board of Education is also inviting school districts to offer an optional Parental Survey to their parent community, and District 101 has elected to participate. This survey is designed to gather parental thoughts on the same important factors noted above and the impact they have had on school effectiveness at your child’s school.
The Parent Survey is currently available until March 31, and can be accessed by clicking HERE.
While this summary information is included on our School Report Card for general reporting purposes, your perceptions of McClure are of great value to me in ensuring we are continuing to grow as a school. I would greatly appreciate it if you all take a few minutes to complete this brief survey.
CogAT Assessment: Grade 6
Students in grade 6 will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) on Tuesday, February 28.
Students will report to 10th period rooms for a testing session in the morning and then classes will resume after testing.
The CogAT Test measures the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student compared to age mates and grade mates. These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school.
The CogAT measures three different cognitive abilities.
• The verbal section measures a child’s ability to remember and transform sequences of English words, to understand them and to make inferences and judgments about them.
• The quantitative section measures a child’s understanding of basic quantitative concepts and relationships.
• The non-verbal section measures reasoning using pictures and geometric shapes. This section reduces the impact of language on the student’s score.
• The composite score is a total score for all three batteries.
Score reports will be sent home later in the Spring, with other assessment information.

A Word from WSFEE
The WSFEE Board was excited to see the All Abilities Fair come to life for elementary students this week. The fair is another great WSFEE partnership that allowed students to learn about how classmates and others deal with - and overcome - a variety of physical, neurological and learning challenges. Students experienced what some of these challenges feel like via a variety of real life scenarios. The fair experiences come to McClure students in April. Remember to keep in touch with WSFEE by visiting wsfee.org or follow WSFEE on Facebook or Instagram (@wsfee_d101) to hear about recent grants, events, sponsorship, and donation opportunities.
