Principal Keener's Message...
Safe Place to Learn and Grow
The other day, I had 4 youngsters in my office. They were in for playing rough during recess. One was quite upset, another was still glowering, and the other two were fairly non-plussed. They had been playing Dragons -v- Tigers. A dragon boy was upset about being clawed by a tiger boy: makes sense.
While students know such play is not allowed at school, many games start-off with good intentions and then something happens, things go sideways. It is never fun having your play time interrupted by something negative. Then again, school is a place to learn and grow and I do believe all students in my office grew a bit that day.
There is so much our students are learning during this time of their lives. Summer is a wonderful time to explore all there is to be a successful family member. While you and your family are learning and exploring this summer, don’t forget to read, write, and engage math. These months become crucial for catching up to grade-level expectation if not getting a bit ahead. Doing this with a friend is always easier. Whether it is visiting the library, writing a letter, or measuring for a baking activity doing so with others makes it that much richer learning experience.
Soon it will be August and we'll be sharing our experiences, showing how much we’ve grown. Until then be safe and enjoy all there is to explore in our great world. It has been a fruitful year. I hope all are proud to be Arctic Foxes and can rejoice in how much they’ve grown and learned.
Be safe.
