What's Happening at Norris?
On Thursday, June 1st the Norris School District staff participated in an all day Learning Retreat on the Norris campus. During our Learning Lab, staff was reintroduced to our Norris Practices, grounded in our beliefs, engaged in relevant discussions, explored community-based ecosystems, and participated in team building activities including an all staff bags tournament. We are looking forward to the 2023-24 school year!

ELA: May was an exciting and busy month in ELA as we finished T3. Learners reflected on their academic and personal goals they set early in the school year to see how they progressed and how much they achieved. In ELA, the learners completed projects and some shared them with their peers. Some learners developed google slide presentations as a format, and others developed their information in the form of multi-paragraph essays. Summer session is now in full swing as learners continue to build on their reading and writing skills. Have a fun summer in Wisconsin and enjoy some good reading!
Mathematics: In the Land of Algebraia, Trimester 3 finished off with several learners presenting their projects on how math related to a topic of their choosing. Tavis, Sawyer, and Jaylen selected basketball, and presented on various angles related to shots and different statistics. Mason presented on the math related to a specific type of Star Wars ship. Nick talked about LFOs (low-frequency-oscillations) and the music creation he was working on at home, relating the various graphs to different sine and cosine functions. It was a great end to Trimester 3, and we are looking forward to summer and fall.
Science:
Biology -Learners wrapped up the academic year by completing a pathway on DNA and Genetics.
Earth/Space -Learners finished the year studying weather, climate, and the different types of biomes.
Chemistry -Learners ended the year by performing lots of exciting experiments and investigating acids & bases.
All science learners also spent lots of time outside the last month of the school year. We explored the Norris grounds on the UTV, investigated local biodiversity, and walked the trails through the forest & along the river among other things. It was a great end of the year in Science Labs.
Social Studies: As we conclude another remarkable year at Norris Academy, the High School Social Studies Department reflects with immense pride on the growth and accomplishments of our students. From exploring ancient civilizations to examining modern geopolitics, their commitment to understanding the world around them has been truly inspiring. Learners have developed and (sometimes) employed critical thinking skills, cultural diversity, and a global perspective. Looking ahead, we are excited to build upon our successes, explore new avenues of learning, and prepare our students for the challenges and opportunities ahead. Happy Summer!
Electives: Learners were in the home stretch and worked hard to complete their diagnostics before summer! There was lots of progress made and memories shared this year. Here's to a great summer!

ELA/Mathematics: Learners in ELA and math finished the semester with taking the end of the semester diagnostics. We appreciate the hard work that learners put into the diagnostics as one way to show their growth in academics!
Science: In Science, learners worked on self-selected science projects and experiments. Some of the projects were: building a replica lunar landing device, rollercoasters, wind turbines, bridges, and life size dinosaur replicas!
Social Studies: Learners were challenged to work at their own pace to complete social studies competencies of their choosing.
