NEWS FROM THE HEADS
Act of Remembrance, Drama Workshop and Senior Girls Open Afternoon
The national focus on the the centenary of the 1st World War came home to us on Tuesday when we held our Act of Remembrance. It was a very moving occasion with readings of poems, playing of the last post, and a singing of ‘Abide With Me’. A very poignant moment occurred when Mr Hugh Wilding read out a list of Maidenhead College pupils (the original boys’ school on our site) read out a list of 28 ex-pupils who had served in the 1st World War, 7 of whom lost their lives. I am always struck how well our young people react to such occasions, treating them with great dignity and a genuine empathy with the national mood. Even our youngest pupils in Reception understood how important it was to remain still and silent at 11am. read more >>>
I'm often asked by prospective parents about the benefits of our diamond structure here at Claires Court. The pupils are able to learn in their own single sex environment, enabling them to become resilient and confident learners and flourish in familiar and comfortable surroundings.
The nursery children have had a very busy week. We started by making poppies using clay, paint, glitter and card which I am sure you will have appreciated when they brought them home on Tuesday. The children never cease to amaze us and having told them a little bit about Armistice Day they listened attentively to the bells of Big Ben on the classroom radios and managed to remain silent for the 2 minutes! We then read a lovely story “Where the poppies now grow” written by Hilary Robinson and Martin Impey which the children listened to really well. read more >>>
IMPORTANT NOTICES
From the School Nurse - Medicines in School: When parents bring medicine into School it should be in an appropriate container, clearly labelled with content and the pupil's name, and it MUST be accompanied by a Prescribed Medication form (available from the School Office) with all details clearly written. Please note that the School can refuse to administer the medication if these conditions are not met.
PTA Family Fireworks Party- what did you think?
The PTAs were grateful to all who joined them for this amazing event just before half term. A crowded field at Junior Boys enjoyed food, drink, entertainment and a fantastic fireworks display. We hope that all who attended had a great time and in order for all who attended to give us their views on the event – we ask that YOU click on the link and complete our feedback questionnaire. Do please let us know what you think – we love to hear your views. Substantial funds were raised for the PTAs to utilise in the forthcoming year.
