This week in math we finished up chapter 3 and we have begun our next chapter on comparing numbers. We will explore amounts or sizes that are equal to, greater than or less than.
This week we were fortunate enough to receive new hand sewn Reading Bags!!! YES, I am so excited and so are your children! Thanks to Alex Casole's grandmother we now have small bags to hold our little reading books during Reader's Workshop time. Please ask your child about it. It is enhancing our workshop time and the students are proud to take their personal bag with them to read while I read with with some each day.
We are writing beginning our next Writer's Workshop stories and will soon begin our author study on Donald Crews. Currently, we are studying famous author Jan Brett and her wonderful books. Ask your child to retell The Hat or The Mitten. In fact, using The Mitten which came home in their Big Bags will help them retell the story in order from beginning to end. This is really good for the children to do. We will continue to practice this in school and be assessed on this as time goes on.
Finally, we were invited to the third grade show this week. Some of us had siblings in the show which is always a treat! Congratulations to our third graders..a reminder that time sure does go by fast at Ben Franklin School.
