Coding a Robot Project at Qualcomm's Thinkabit Lab
Message from Principal Labas
Greetings Parents & Community Members,
This Wednesday, the iMiddle Parent Foundation will be holding our annual Move- a- Thon. They will be collecting money on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the flag pole before school.
See additional information below for how to have your child participate in the Move-a-Thon.
Have you heard of STEAM? Many of you have heard of the acronym STEM, which stands for the integration of science, technology, engineering, and math into the classroom curriculum. The White House has been making a strong push toward the STEM movement. In 2010, President Obama said, “leadership tomorrow depends on how we educate our students today -- especially in science, technology, engineering and math."
But how many of you have heard of the acronym STEAM? STEAM also emphasizes the sciences, technology, engineering, and math while at the same time acknowledging the importance of integrating the arts in innovation. Innovation is moving forward with STEAM by implementing an Orchestra/Band Program, artist is residence program for our new art elective class next year and by hosting a STEAM enrichment approach through our Advisory Program next school year.
We believe that Innovation and creativity DO go together!
Here are some interesting facts found in an article written by Erik Robelen in Edweek:
“Nobel laureates in the sciences were 22 times more likely than scientists in general to be involved in the performing arts.”
“Albert Einstein was an accomplished violinist.”
Leonardo da Vinci was a sculptor, painter, scientist, engineer, and an inventor.
To learn more about the STEAM movement here are some resources LINK.
Have a great week!
