LEVELING UP IN 2020
Howdy Hounds!
We had a great first full week of the 20-21 school year! We continue to be so impressed with our Hounds and their adaptability! A huge thank you to all of the parents that participated in Parent Orientation as well. As I have said before, the home-school partnership is more important now than ever.
Over the next couple of weeks, we are looking forward to completing our beginning of year assessments and settling down into small group instruction for both on-campus and virtual students. Our teachers have been working hard to design engaging and rigorous lessons to meet the diverse needs of our students. We look forward to watching our Hounds grow this year.
As a reminder, we invite parents of both on-campus and virtual students to visit the district website to learn more about Canvas by clicking here. For parents that need additional assistance, Ida Jurkowski, our amazing librarian, is our Canvas Parent Support Representative. You can email her directly at ijurkowski@lcisd.org Also, parents...please be sure that you are checking your child's Canvas courses frequently for important announcements and messages from the teacher. You can also set up notifications to go straight to your email when a message/announcement is posted.
A quick reminder regarding face coverings...Students are required to bring two dress code approved masks/face coverings daily. One will be worn, and one additional mask/face covering will be brought in a sealed/ziploc bag. Labeling of the masks with a student name is suggested. Face shields may be used in place of a mask to protect eyes, nose, and mouth whenever a mask is not feasible or whenever the education context may benefit from the ability to see an individual’s full face. All students should be using a face mask or neck buff/gaiter in the common areas of the building.
We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend. We look forward to seeing our Hounds back on Tuesday!
Sincerely,
Bethany Cunningham
Principal

Character Counts!
Lamar CISD uses Character Counts as a piece of our social-emotional curriculum. Character Counts focuses on learning 6 core values to prepare every student to succeed in school; live happy, worthy and fulfilling personal lives; and become engaged, responsible and productive citizens.
TRUSTWORTHINESS
During the month of September, we will go into each classroom (virtual and on-campus) to start our Character Counts lessons. September is all about learning to be TRUSTWORTHY. What does it mean to be TRUSTWORTHY?
Think “true blue“ • Be honest • Don’t deceive, cheat or steal • Be reliable — do what you say you’ll do • Have the courage to do the right thing • Build a good reputation • Be loyal — stand by your family, friends, and country
Remember, your Character Counts!

Face Coverings (Repeat)
Students are required to bring two dress code approved masks/face coverings daily. One will be worn, and one additional mask/face covering will be brought in a sealed/ziploc bag. Labeling of the masks with a student name is suggested.
Mask questions we have received:
Can my child wear a face shield? Full-face shields may be used in place of a mask to protect eyes, nose, and mouth whenever a mask is not feasible or whenever the education context may benefit from the ability to see an individual’s full face.
Can my child wear a neck gaiter/buff? Yes, these are also approved.
Does the mask have to be a Huggins uniform color? No. Masks may be any color or design. However, no inappropriate language or images will be allowed.
***Please note that BSN Sports has graciously donated Huggins Hounds lanyards that will be given to students on the first day of school. Students will be able to use these lanyard to attach their masks so that they do not get lost.
