Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year & the FF

We are so excited to have you begin or continue your educational journey at AIS with us this school year. Welcome to this school year and to our weekly newsletter, the Friday Flash (FF). Please be sure to be on the lookout each Friday evening (when school is in session) for our newsletter, as it contains a wealth of information about upcoming events and needs for our school. Friday Flash distribution emails come from your Family Web contact information you submitted during enrollment. If you are not receiving our FF, check your spam, social, or promotions folders. If it’s there, add the sending address to your safe sender’s list. If it’s not there, reach out to us so we can confirm your email address. Remember that you are always able to find back issues on the school’s website under the News section.

Student Meet the Teachers-Tue., 8/17, 1:00 - 5:00 pm
Be sure to mark your calendars for the afternoon of Tuesday, August 17th from 1:00 -5:00 pm! Due to a change in current staging in Austin and tightening of our adaptive protocols, our annual Meet the Teachers event will take place with a few restrictions this year. Though we typically welcome both students and parents/guardians into the building and classroom together via a come and go system, we will only be able to allow the entry of students into our building during this year’s Meet the Teachers event via required sign-up times.

To manage the flow of people in and out of the building, families must register for a 15-minute time slot per child using School Soft, our scheduling platform for the Meet the Teacher event. If you had an account previously, you may use your old log-on details (or reset your password if you have forgotten it). If this is your first time using School Soft, you may sign-up for an account online.

Event Details:

  • Upon arrival, all families will enter the campus from the Coronet entrance where staff will be on hand to direct and answer questions. The Adelphi Lane side will be for exiting only.
  • Families may drop off their completed and signed Health and Safety Protocol Family Acknowledgement Form and Household COVID-19 Vaccination Status Form with a staff member.
  • Students may bring school supplies to Meet the Teacher or on the first day of school as instructed by classroom teachers via a forthcoming teacher welcome email.
  • CP - 4è (1st grade - Middle School) students will then be dropped off under the portico to walk to their cycle entrance. Parents may park in front of the school.
  • PS - GS (PK3 - Kinder) families will drive through the drop-off lane and park by the back Maternelle playground. Cycle 1 parents may walk their students to the classroom doors as outlined on the map in our campus opening guide. Maternelle parents should remain outside of the classrooms.
This is a great way to orient students to the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up routines for the school day. Parents, while waiting for the student/teacher meet and greets to conclude, please visit the front of the building for our outdoor PTO Uniform Exchange Station & our Fall Afterschool Activities Sign-Up Station. Thank you for adhering to the following parent & student guidelines and see the detailed blurbs below for more information.
  • All students and parents/family members must wear a mask while on campus during this event.
  • Thank you for taking turns and maintaining safe distances with staff, other parents, guardians, and students while visiting booths.
  • Thank you for expediting your booth visits to accommodate other families.

Parent-Teacher Organization Uniform Exchange-Tue., 8/17, 1:00 - 5:00 pm

The PTO will set up a self-serve/touchless (unmanned - i.e., honor system) uniform exchange sale during our Meet the Teacher event.

  • Please bring cash with various exact denominations (most items are between $1 to $5 each) to leave in the payment box and thank you for understanding that we will not have change on hand.
  • Future online payment information may be shared next week.
  • Record your quantity, name, and total $ purchase information on the checklist/clipboard provided
  • Take the corresponding number of items home with you.

Fall Afterschool Activity Sign-Ups Begin-Tue., 8/17, 1:00 - 5:00 pm

During the Student Meet the Teacher event, parents and guardians may peruse the offerings for this semester's afterschool class activities at the front of the school. Usually, we would have computer stations to sign up directly through your Family Portal, but with our safety protocols in mind and to expedite the process, we will utilize paper sign-up sheets to initiate registration. Jhino Medrano, our Extracurricular Programs Coordinator, will be on hand to answer questions and will follow up with you over the coming week to confirm registrations and provide future online sign-up links.

School Supplies
It’s not too late to order school supplies! If you haven’t been able to do that yet, please visit the Yubbler website and purchase the supplies that you need for the start of school. Please remember to stock up on any personal protective equipment that your child(ren) may need during the school year—in particular, comfortable but well-fitting face coverings and personal hand sanitizer. Your children are encouraged to bring their supplies with them during the Meet the Teachers event on Tuesday, August 17th.
