Wind Symphony

Week of Sept. 19-23

Officer Election Results

We had a great week of campaigning with Band Officer Elections this week! Congratulations to ALL students who put themselves out there in an effort to represent our Band program. We're proud of all of you!! We will be voting in all classes today. Results will be posted in the Band Hall and on our Social Media accounts this afternoon!!

SmartMusic Program

In order to facilitate good practice habits, we use a wonderful web-based program called SmartMusic with our students. Click HERE to watch a short video explaining how the program works. It makes practicing more fun at home, and is like having a teacher in the room helping to guide them along. It's awesome! In the coming weeks, we will have assignments that will be due through SmartMusic.

While students are not required to have a home subscription, we strongly encourage it if possible. A yearlong subscription is $40 and allows the students to use it whenever they choose at home! However, we do have six iPads at school with subscriptions on them that students may sign up to use if they do not have a home subscription. If you have any questions about this program and how we use it, please don't hesitate to ask

Practice Habits

We are four weeks into school, and I want to make sure that all of our students are developing appropriate practice habits to set them up for success this year. Being in Wind Symphony is an honor and a privilege, and brings with it an added level of commitment to practicing. I find it most helpful if the students can set a regular time and place each day for practicing. Being consistent in that way will pay huge dividends. At this time, your student should be practicing at least 5 days a week. You should be hearing them practice some fundamental exercises, scales, Region music, and any additional materials their private teacher has assigned them. Thank you for helping to encourage your musician to practice regularly! Our entire Band program benefits as each individual improves!

Supplies

Most students have all of their supplies which is fantastic!! The item that seems to be missing from most is a Tuner and Tuning Clip (Percussion families do not need this). If your child has a smartphone and has downloaded a Tuner app then the following link is an example of what they need to use it in rehearsal. This allows for the app to hear only their instrument and not just pick up the sound of the group.

Peterson PitchGrabber

This item can also be picked up at most music stores.
