Principal's Message
Hello Sunset Lake Families,
We have had a great start to our school year and are very proud of the way our student leaders have readjusted into their new school routines. We have spent time learning our building expectations and reviewing our 7 Habits. We have also spent time assessing our students in the areas of literacy and math and are starting up our intervention and extension times during our WIN (What I Need ) instruction block.
In October we will focus on learning more about Habit 1: Be Proactive.
Be Proactive centers on taking charge of your own attitude and actions. We will be teaching our students that they are in charge of themselves and to focus on what they can do--not the actions of others. We hope you take some time this month to learn more about Habit 1 and to talk with your child about what they have learned.
We are super excited that we will be offering 7 Habit Training to 10 Sunset Lake Families this year and plan to continue growing our family learning through Habit Workshops in the future.
If you are interested in learning more please contact Angie Getsinger at agetsinger@vicksburgschools.org
Families interested in collaborating with our staff on the school improvement process may be interested in joining our Family Lighthouse Team. The Family Lighthouse Team helps us with decisions regarding school improvement in the area of community and family engagement. Please contact me if you are interested in being part of our Family Lighthouse Team. You can email me at amccaw@vicksburgschools.org or call 321-1560.
We wish your family a fun-filled fall season and we hope you enjoy October in Michigan!
Yours in Learning,
Amie McCaw
Sunset Lake Elementary Principal
HOMECOMING FRIDAY
MSTEP Results (Michigan Student Test of Educatioinal Progress)
We will be sending home the Parent Report from last spring's MSTEP assessment with your child this week. Please notify our office if you do not receive this report by Friday.
END OF DAY DISMISSAL
Thank you for following our end of day dismissal procedures. Our dismissal has been going relatively smoothly. We do want to remind families that you utilize our car pick up line or wait outside our gym doors until your child is dismissed. We need to keep our lobby and bus ramp area clear of families to ensure that we know where our students are at all times.
A few things to communicate:
1.) IF you are making a change for your child's end of day dismissal--our office MUST know by 3:00 p.m. that day to make sure the message is communicated to everyone involved.
2.) Pedestrians that are picking up children and going into the parking lot need to use the Pedestrian Crosswalk. We have a Crossing Guard that will help guide our cars and keep our families safe. PLEASE be sure to use the Pedestrian Crosswalk every time.
3.) Cars are to use Wellhouse Dr. (behind the school around the ball fields) to enter our pick up line.
4.) Cars with name tags hanging from the rear-view mirror help us keep the pace of our departure. Please contact your child's teacher if you need a name tag.
THANK YOU!

Common Sense Media-- A Must for All Families!
Today many games and videos are meant for mature audiences and yet elementary-aged children are wanting to play and view these games meant for 17-year-olds. We highly encourage families to screen and be aware of what your child is viewing at all times.
