PCMS Weekly Update
October 28, 2022
Good afternoon PCMS Families!
You should be receiving your child’s 1st Quarter Report card today via email. Be sure to check those out and let us know if you have any questions. Reminder that it’s still not too late to sign up for next week’s Parent-Teacher Conferences. They are both virtual and in-person and there are no drop-in conferences - all need to be scheduled (see below for more detailed information about next week’s conferences). And also, a HUGE THANK YOU to those who have Called Out a Teacher. If you haven’t and would like to, it’s not too late! All you have to do is click here to share something that you or your child is grateful for about them. It only takes about 30 seconds to do but they’ll be remembered for much, much longer! And finally, two weeks ago we talked about our Student Council group and a couple of leadership opportunities they took part in. One of those opportunities was going to see how another middle school conducted their pep assemblies. This past Wednesday, they put together an absolutely AMAZING assembly!! It was filled with tons of school spirit, positive energy, and tons of fun! We couldn’t be more proud of them and all of their hard work in putting that together for all of us to enjoy!
Have a wonderful weekend and GO PIRATES!!
Check Out What We Did This Week!
Our Amazing STUCO kids put on a Fantastic Assembly this week!
Lots of Spirit during the Assembly!
School Tips & Reminders
It's time for tricks and treats and all things Halloween! We want to remind you that students are not to wear costumes to school on Monday. We hope that everyone has a safe and fun Halloween full of ghosts, goblins, and lots of CANDY!
This Week's CharacterStrong Focus
Here’s a quick recap of what we talked about this week in our CharacterStrong sessions - some good stuff right here!
- 6 Grade talked about Exploring Values. This was the 1st of 3 sessions focused on exploring values. Getting clear on our own personal values can help us make decisions and act in ways that align with our sense of self and what we think is important. In this session, we explored the topic of values by reflecting on the qualities we value in other people.
- 7 Grade learned about Emotions Vocabulary. Following 2 sessions on emotion understanding, this was the 1st of 3 sessions focused on emotion regulation. In this session, we learned about regulating our own strong emotions by Naming them and improving our ability to use this approach by practicing distinguishing between different intensities of emotion to help us find the right name for what we are experiencing.
- 8 Grade explored Creating Goals. This was the 2nd of 3 sessions on values and habits. Our values can help us identify things we want to accomplish that are important to us. In this session, we worked on connecting our values to goals.
Pirates in Action
This week we began our winter sports seasons with boys and girls basketball, wrestling, and archery teams all getting started. And good luck to our Robotics team as they travel to Omaha, NE for their first tournament of the season! GO PIRATES!!

Upcoming MOCSA Training for 8th Grade
8th Grade Parents: Please review the letter below regarding upcoming training provided by the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA). If you do NOT want your child to attend this presentation, please complete THIS FORM by Wednesday, November 9.
MOCSA’s consent presentation is a developmentally appropriate conversation about the definition and laws of consent, understanding verbal and non-verbal boundaries, and how to support people that may have experienced violence. Each presentation is a discussion with students to talk about what they are seeing and understanding from their perspectives and always ends with a call to action to identify safe people to speak with should they need it.
Day of Hope Fundraiser
Each year PCMS partners with The Day of Hope to collect items used for their annual event that supports families in need. This year grade levels will compete against each other during the week of October 31-November 3 to bring in the most items. We would love to fill the tables and send a large donation to support The Day of Hope this year! Please help us support this cause by bringing in any of the following items:
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
