First Grade Fun
April 2016
Dear First Grade Families,
I can't believe the year is flying by so fast! The class had fun at jump rope for heart! Thank you to all those who donated. We are enjoying the warmer weather! We read outside with our 4th grade buddies the other week. Happy April birthday to Sofia and Jairo.

April was a great month! We read some great books like Whistle for Willie, Junie B. Jones The Boss of Lunch, and The Earth and I. In math, we learned about fractions, 3d shapes, number grid puzzles, and telling time to the half hour. In science we started our unit on organisms. We created terrariums and aquariums. We even have guppies and snails. Each student also started growing their own plants. They will be going home soon. During language arts, students thought about the sequence of events and understanding characters when they read and listened to stories. We learned about different vowel teams like ou and ow. During writer's workshop, we learned how to write friendly letters. Students wrote to teachers in the building, students in the class, and first graders in my friend's class in North Carolina. I know May will be a great month filled with even more fun and learning! We are looking forward to the field trip to the aquarium.
