Terry Fox Tradition Continues at Chantrell Creek
This Friday, September 28th, at 10:30 am, all students at Chantrell Creek Elementary will be participating in the annual Terry Fox School run for the 26th time! This important event honors Terry Fox, who is a true Canadian Hero and through his efforts and inspiration has raised millions of dollars for Cancer Research.
On Tuesday September 25th, pledge sheets will be sent home with specific information with how to donate. All monies collected at Chantrell Creek will be forwarded to the Terry Fox Foundation. Please return all pledge forms and monies by Monday October 2nd, 2018.
I look forward to having a great run on Friday, so we can continue Terry's Legacy at Chantrell.

Orange Shirt Day
"Every Child Matters"
On Monday, October 1st, the staff and students at Chantrell Creek will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day. This is a part of the ongoing process of reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. Orange Shirt Day is held to honour the healing journey of the survivors of residential schools and their families. From the 1880s until the last school shut down in 1996, Canada's residential school system forced about 150,000 First Nations, Inuit and Metis children to attend facilities that aimed to "take the Indian out of the child."
Orange Shirt Day is the legacy of the 'St. Joseph Mission Residential School Commemoration Project' in 2013. Phyllis Webstad was a former student at St. Joseph Mission Residential School in Williams Lake, British Columbia. She shared her story of her favourite new orange shirt which was taken from her on her first day of school when she was six years old. Orange Shirt Day provides us with the opportunity to reaffirm that all of the residential school survivors matter, and so do those who have been affected - "Every Child Matters."
We encourage everyone to wear their favourite shirt on Oct. 1st to honour Phylis Webstad and all of the children who went to residential schools. For more information, please visit orangeshirtday.org
