- Bycatch in fishing gear, including (driftnets, gillnets, and purse seine operations).
- Commercial harpoon fisheries over-fishing in Indonesia, the Lesser Antilles, and Japan.
- Being hit by ships, occasionally.
- Marine debris and trash.
- Underwater sounds and anthropogenic noise.

The species is protected under The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972.
